5377.0. "Bridge alarm on ethernet address" by KERNEL::WARDJO () Thu Jul 22 1993 11:58
    Hello,

    A customer is using polycenter 400 V2.3 on VMS V5.5 and has created an
    alarm rule to check for change in spanning tree.

    The rule is as follows:-

    CREATE DOMAIN .wa.domain.spanning_tree RULE
    TEST_WAN_SPANNING_TREE_CHANGE -

    EXPRESSION = (BRIDGE .wa.bridge.s_s2cfc_ex LINE 1 DESIGNATED BRIDGE ID
    -
    <> 08-00-2b-20-4e-50, AT EVERY 00:20:00) ,-
    CATEGORY = "WAN bridge problem" ,-
    SEVERITY    = MAJOR,-
    DESCRIPTION = "This is a test "

    What he has found is that what he puts in the last 4 figures of the
    ethernet address make no difference what so ever.

    I havent managed to reproduce it but wondered if anyone else had seen
    anything similar?

    Regards,

    Jon

| 5377.1 | Comparison field length -max value? | KERNEL::WARDJO |  | Mon Aug 09 1993 12:06 | 10 |
|  |
    Well, I've now managed to reproduce this problem.

    Does anyone know if a comparison rule has a maximum field length that
    it can compare against?

    Regards,

    Jon
