A couple of problems, the first being a minor nit:
(VMS V5.5, Motif V1.1, DECmcc X1.2.15 with latest trap image
containing support for CMU agent)
1. When registering an SNMP entity, the "Add Entity" window pops up
with the input field lines only, no discriptive text to the left
of the lines. After minimizing/maximizing the window, everything
was OK.
2. I was using a SUN agent along with the SUN MIB as described in
SUN_MIBDEF.TXT (dated 29-MAR-1992). It worked nicely. My
compliments. We also tested SNMP traps from the agent. The
SNMP AM worked very well.
My problem occurs when trying to SET a CHARACTERISTIC attribute
via the IMPM. The SNMP AM reports back with success when I click
on the START button. It even shows the value of the attribute
psProcessStatus as 1 (was 0). But when I click on SHOW CHAR,
the value is returned as 0.
What's going on? Could it be that the agent is instantly setting
the value back to the original "0" value before I can issue the
show command? Any clues?
Thanks,
Dan

Note 2727.1 SET psProcessStatus problem when using SNMP AM & SUN MIB 1 of 1

In SNMP protocol, when a management station makes a set-request
the agent returns either a get-response with an error status or
a get-response identical to the request,(if the set succeeded).
In the latter case, the SNMP AM takes the variable value in the
response buffer and returns it as the new value of the attribute
you are trying to do a set on. (Thus you see the value of the
attribute psProcessStatus as 1).
From all this, two things seem possible :
1) The agent did not really update the variable, but returned
success status.
or
2) The agent immediately reset the variable to its old value.
(Something you might have guessed already).
If you really want to get to the bottom of this problem, you will
be better off pursuing the matter with the folks responsible for the
SUN agent.
