| 1005.1 | SPDs are a good place to start... | MCDOUG::MCPHERSON | i'm only 5 foot one... | Mon May 13 1991 14:06 | 16 |
|  | Hello.
I would suggest looking up the SPDs for each of these in VTX ("$ VTX SPD" will
usu get you there if your site is set up correctly...) Look at the "Network
Management" listings under the "VMS applications" listings. There's a lot of
info there about the products you mentioned.
The SPDs for the DECmcc stuff is here in this conference somewhere.
(DIR/TITLE=SPD should net something.)
I will leave it to others to fill you in more about your specific questions...

(I tell you on the phone to look in here and then *I* answer you here...
Oh well....)

| 1005.2 | terminal emulation? | BSS::MCDONALD |  | Tue May 14 1991 15:50 | 12 |

    One more question, Does/will mcc provide terminal emulation?

    For example: Since the SNMP AM is not yet available, can we provide
    a connection to the RS232 control port and then be able to pull down
    the screen for that particular device using terminal emulation?

    Thanks again,

| 1005.3 | Why not use a Terminal Server? | CHRISB::BRIENEN | DECmcc Bridge|Station|SNMP Management. | Tue May 14 1991 17:01 | 4 |
| | Why does DECmcc have to provide this?
Why not just attach the "control port" to a terminal server, and connect
to it from the workstation?

	Just to keep the records straight, the SNMP AM has been
	shipping since October 1990, not that I see a connection
	between it and terminal emulation.

    re .3 That's basically what I would like to do...can you piont me to
           more information?

    re .4 It has to do with terminal emulation becuase that device I would
           be supporting is compatable with SNMP. I was under an incorrect
           impresion that that particular AM was not yet available...

| 1005.6 | Use the whole workstation! | CHRISB::BRIENEN | DECmcc Bridge|Station|SNMP Management. | Wed May 15 1991 16:20 | 13 |
|  | RE: 1005.5
The suggestion (communicated via phone to Andy) was to not limit yourself
to just what DECmcc provides(!)
Specifically, if DECmcc is running on a VMS DECwindows Workstation, you can
use other functions provided by it (or by other layered products installed
on it) to get your job done.
Connecting the RS232 port to a Terminal Server port and using LAT
to connect to that port from a DECterm is one possibility...

| 1005.7 | Launch from MCC | ENUF::GASSMAN |  | Fri May 17 1991 13:13 | 7 |
| | While going to another window and using sethost/lat/telnet,etc
    works, another approach is to launch the appropriate terminal
    connection from the operation menu for the selected device. This helps
    present the 'integrated' feeling to the product, and brings MCC more in
    line with the style that many other management systems are using.
