I am running DECmcc/BMS EFT 1.1 on a VMS 5.3-1 system with funny behavior
of characters when I display MAP children entities on a VMS 5.4-1 based
    server.

    GLCIER VMS 5.3-1 DECnet 10.508 & DECmcc/BMS EFT 1.1

is host node where EFT 1.1 is installed.

DEVORE VMS 5.4-1 DECnet 62.518 (in hidden area)

is where I usually display the iconic map.

When I double click on any icon for a .DNA_NODE.* (NODE4 entities) or any
children entities which display text lists, I get a text list of the
children entities in badly garbled font. It looks like a bunch of heavy
verticle bars imposed on good text. I can select the entities and
perform operations on them, but it sure is distracting.

I have tried displaying on other 5.4-1 systems not in hidden areas with
    same results.

I have tried displaying on other 5.3-1 systems with NO problems...

I have looked in both DECwindows and VMS Field Test notes and have seen
no entries that struck me as being related.

    Any clues ?

| Jim, This is a known bug, but you that fact that you ran on a group of 5.3 machines and a group of 5.4 machines and saw some consistant behavior is the best clue yet. Is there a way for you to easily compare the 5.3 server sysgen parameters against the 5.4 server sysgen parameters? The system authorize params might have an effect too. Fred | |||||

| Please take a look at note 567. This topic came up there. It appears
to be a problem with running VMS 5.4.
