    Brief Description of Problem:
    -----------------------------

    Tried to get the VMS 7.0 delta time patch from www.openvms.digita.com,
    but he couldn't extract those .exe file.  I tried that and it was
    broken.

    I asked him to do ftp ftp.service.digital.com, but he got 'servcie
    disconnected' error even though I have no problem here.

	re: -1 I tried the www.service site again, it works just now that you can extract .exe file and put them on my system. Anyway, I asked Chuck (thanks to him ) to put those patch to ftp.aokabc.com for Vira. Miller

	RE: -1 Advent still have problem installing the savesets, they got error " Protected Image must be installed". None of the a-d exe files can be installed. We're looking into it again. Miller

	Miller -- That's pretty sketchy information. I installed it just fine. I'll assume they did the following: 1) Run all the -dcx_axpexe files 2) Use vmsinstal to install them 3) Reboot What is the context and the full error? "Protected Image must be installed" is a little too brief... -- Chuck Newman

	RE: -1 I called Vira at his new number (847) 884-6800, he confirmed that the patch was installed and failed on Alpha/VMS system. any ideas?

	Have them check the checksums and sizes of the files: FileName size checksum ALPLIBR05_070.A-DCX_AXPEXE;1 229/231 1618121706 ALPLIBR05_070.B-DCX_AXPEXE;1 1428/1428 2047892014 ALPLIBR05_070.C-DCX_AXPEXE;1 1439/1440 4202954229 ALPLIBR05_070.D-DCX_AXPEXE;1 4208/4209 2010969862 The checksum is calculated by using the command: $ CHECKSUM file-name $ SHOW SYMBOL CHECKSUM$CHECKSUM I notice that the file ALPLIBR05_070.CHKSUM gives different values than what I get. I am, however, able to run the files to generate the save sets, and then install them on an Alpha.

	Vira called back and read me out the checksums after he copied the files from his unix machine to his vms machine. (they are not even close) Looks like whatever he's using to transfer the files is corrupting it. As Chuck suggested, I'll have him copy the file back to the unix machine and do the checksum to validate his copy procedures...

	Vira claims he can ftp the file from his unix machine to a vms machine, and back. He also claims the checksum matches indicating there is no corruption in his copy. Chuck claims the file he ftp'd onto Vira's unix system is not corrupted because he can copy it back and install it here. The tie goes to Chuck, but I also told Vira I would send him a V7.1 update kit to get him the patch and close the call. (he's entitled becuase he bought the system less than 90 days ago and is on warranty)

	Greetings! I just posted a note after following the instructions on the external web site for the delta-time patch and I too did not get the checksums to jive with the information in the .CHKSUM file. See note 238.229 in the VMSNOTES conference I just posted for details. FWIW, I hope its just cockpit error on my part, 'cuz if I was a real external customer and I started pulling down ECO kits I couldn't verify in some way (especially when the vendor supplies a means to do so), I'd be upset. Without being able to even check the original dates/sizes of the files I'm supposed to pull down off the Internet, I'm not the only paranoid system manager type out there who is going to notice this little "discrepancy", cheers...
