Reply to: RE>Reference Number 1997-3523 (Developer Studio crashes)
Donna,
Sorry it took a while to get this to you but here it is.
The problem I am having is with Microsoft Visual C++ - when I debug a
program and step through it for a while and then try to stop debugging
I choose "Stop Debugging" from the "Debug" menu and Microsoft Developer
Studio bombs with the message:
The instruction at "0x77F10ED4" referenced memory at 0x00000000. The
memory could not be written
if your then debug MSDEV it returns the message
Unhandled exception in MSDEV.EXE (NTDLL.DLL): 0xC0000005: Access Violation
I then have to kill MSDEV with the task manager and restart MSDEV
Version Info:
WindowsNT 4.0 build 1381
VisualC++ 4.0
Alpha Firmware 4.49-4

Subj: Re: Reference Number 1997-3523 (Developer Studio crashes)
   Hi Jack,
This is Miller from Alpha Developer Suupport. I think I know the
fix to your problem. Please try the following which works for many
   similar VC4.0/Alpha problem:
   Symptoms:
     * The Debugger Call Stack window fails to display the call stack.
     * The Debugger Variables Context combo box is empty.
     * Access violations frequently occur when exiting the
       debugger (especially on large projects).
     * Access violations occasionally occur upon exiting the Developer
       Studio without using the debugger.
These problems can be eliminated by copying the IMAGEHLP.DLL file
from the Visual C++ 4.0 CD-ROM to the Developer Studio installation
     on your system.
     To copy the file:
     1. Open the BIN folder within your Developer Studio base folder.
The base folder's name is typically MSDEV.
     2. Insert the Visual C++ 4.0 CD-ROM into your system's CD-ROM drive.
     3. Open the REDIST folder within the MSDEV folder on the CD-ROM.
     4. Drag and drop IMAGEHLP.DLL from the redist folder on the CD-ROM
to the BIN folder on your hard drive.
If the problem still persist, let us know immediately and we will
figure another way to help you.
P.S. Visual C++ 5.0 Alpha info is available on the web:
         http://www.microsoft.com/visualc/
RISC platforms (Alpha processor only)
For new users:
Visual C++ 5.0 RISC Edition (part number 048-000124) is direct for $199. There
are no upgrades
available.
I think your problem will be fixed with the above instruction before you
    decide to upgrade to VC5.0.
    Regards,
    Miller
