Subject: DEC ALPHAstation 255 and JAZ SCSI Drive
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii
Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit
I have a Iomega JAZ 1GB SCSI drive and a DEC ALPHAstation
255 running Unix.
I am a sophisticated Unix user, but have not been able to
get this drive setup on the Alpha. The controller sees
it just fine, but I have not been able to do anything
with disklabel working.
Help.

--------
Leo-
Could you please give Joe Austin a call at htmlscript Corporation 619

He is trying to set up disktab and disklable for a foreign disk.
The broadbase log number is 3210. They are in California.
He writes-

It turns out this is a known problem with 4.0 and the Jaz diskes. it is
described in detail in note 8865 of the Digital UNIX conference.
Using some suggestions from that note Joe developed a workaround which
is:
1. copy any disklable to the Jaz disk using dd.
2. run newfs
newfs seems to able to get the required info off the JAZ while
disklabel cannot. It then fixes the label and completes its function.
