Subj: VT320 Terminal Emulation on NT
We have just installed several DEC Prioris XL servers running NT version
4.0. We would like to use these machines as desktop systems for engineers
doing software development on a variety of other DEC hardware. The telnet
package provided with NT only includes VT100 emulation. We use the EDT
editor on VMS systems extensively, which depends on the keys in the number
pad area at the far right of the keyboard. The VT100 software included in
NT does not support this capability.
1) Are there any telnet packages which run under NT 4.0 that provide VT320
terminal emulation for telnet?
It seems that someone in DEC must be using a NT system to telnet into a VMS
system and has probably already solved this problem.
Thanks, Ron Young

We telent all the time into OpenVMS systems using NT. There are several off-the-shelf packages which will work, eg, SmartTerm, KEAterm, etc. !6-bit apps with enhanced 386 inst set will work on Alpha NT 4.0, unaltered. 32-bit apps will also work on Alpha NT using the Fx!32 emulator. Since you are using Intel's, this isn't even an issue. All Emulation packages worth their salt have emulation for VT100, 320 & 420 (at least). The thing Microsoft ships with NT is a piece of junk. EDT is all i use and i telnet from an Alpha NT box into a VMS system using both KEAterm and an Digital-internal terminal emulator.
