Nope, but this Greg kid is obviously gifted.

Here's an actual story that happened to me last fall ('96).
My nephew JJ and I were driving in my truck from my sisters
to my Moms place. Out of the blue, the following discussion
starts: (mind you, he's only 8)
	JJ: Uncle Mike?
	me: Yea Jay?
JJ: When are you going to settle down?
me: (dumbfounded) Huh? Did your Mom put you up to this?
	JJ: No.
me: You came up with this all on your own?
JJ: Yea.. So when are you going to settle down?
	me: Why?
JJ: I want cousins. I never get to see Uncle Liam's kids, but
if you had kids I'd get to see them all the time. So, when
are you going to settle down?
me: It's not as easy as that Dude. I haven't met the right person
	    yet.
JJ: Well, you're going out with someone tomorrow, right? What
	    about her?
me: Jay, we're just going out for lunch, not to make babies. It's
	    not that easy!
At this point, I'm gobsmacked.. I try to explain to him the
math involved. Even if I met someone today, it would be a couple
of years before kids and then many years after that before he
could hang with them and play with them, and by that time he'd
be a teenager and have no time for playing with little kids. That
seemed to pacify him, but I'll tell you, it's an eye opening
experience to have someone who's diapers you used to change not
that long ago start putting you on the spot about your "status".
He's an awesome kid.. I wish I had one just like him.
								mike
P.S. JJ is short for John James. Everyone calls him Jay. I've
called him "Dude" since he was a little one. His sister Mollie
used to call him "Dude" before she could say "JJ". Way cute. :)

Whoa, I didn't read that far down... the kid obviously has his
priorities swapped (as usual, I'll be watching, coaching and playing
    again come spring).

	Speechless, flabbergasted..
Gob is slang for mouth.. (as in "Shut yer gob!" or "You're a
bloody gobshite") and I suspect that's where gobsmacked and
gobshite come from. Gobsmacked being speechless and gobshite
being someone who is full of it.
There's lots of sailing references in the dictionary around it.
Gob being short for sailor and smack being short for sailing ship.

Kids DO say the darndest things! I saw that list before but still
got a kick out of rereading it. Never know what a kid perception is.

My grandson is constantly coming up with cute little 'insights' that
he has. He'll be 7 years old in April.

When he was about 4 1/2 (and this was PRIOR To my even telling anyone
that I was planning on filing a divorce) he filled me on what he was
    thinking... It went like this.

We were walking past my bedroom to go outside and he says.....

"Meme (French version of grandma), we need to talk. Let's go
in your bedroom and you sit down." I sat down on the bed and he
proceeded to go over to my bureau and take some makeup and bring
it over to me. He then said. "Meme, you need to put some makeup on
your face and make yourself real pretty so you can find yourself a
    boyfriend."

That's when I said. "But Tommy, I'm married to your grandpa and
can't go out with boyfriends." His response was.... "But pepe's
not a good boyfriend for you, you need a good man in your life. I
would get you one but I don't have sixty dollars!"

I didn't know whether to laugh or cry. Well, at least if I'm
out 'shopping' for a new boyfriend I know I'll have to have sixty
    dollars with me.

      Thanks B,

In fact I have one from Valentines Day.

I walked into the house with one of those big hershey's kisses
for him in a bag. I said to him. "Guess what Tommy! Seeing that it's
Valentines Day, I'm going to give you a giant kiss!" He says......

"Oh no! Please don't do that, it'll make me puke!"

I didn't know whether to laugh or cry then either. I pulled out the
hershey kiss and his eyes just lit up! I then said. "Hey wait a minute!
What do you mean when you say a kiss from me will make you puke!" He
then told me that he was too young to kiss girls. Wait until he's 16!

         Rosie

| 46.18 | Beware of 8-year-olds bearing questions! | STAR::DIPIRRO |  | Wed Feb 19 1997 10:26 | 17 |
| | Well, Mike, you just never know what's going to come out of the
mouth of an 8-year-old. A couple of years ago, when my youngest was 8,
he kept saying he wanted to ask me something. He seemed concerned about
it, whatever it was. When we were alone, he said, "Daddy, what's a dick
massage?" Too bad someone didn't catch my expression on film! I said,
"OK, Matthew, let's back up a little...Where did you hear this?" It
turned out that Matthew liked this little girl in his class. He
mentioned it to another boy in the class, who told him that maybe she'd
give him a dick massage...that he and this other girl hide in the
closet, and she gives him one. Both these kids were 8 too.
Well, I didn't tell him what a dick massage was...but I did sit
down with him and his older brother shortly thereafter for "the talk."
It was good that I did because they had a lot of questions, despite
being embarrassed...and they also now feel comfortable coming to me
with questions about it. Of course, once they knew all about it, they
didn't want to have ANYTHING to do with it for a LONG time, if ever.
They'll stick to basketball and extreme sledding, they told me.

I told her that you cannot find a step mom like you can buy a Barbi
