    Hmm, must stand for "ClosedVMS"?

| | CVMS was/is the prepackaged OpenVMS system distribution done internally
for many systems by some group that I can't remember. It came with a
set of layered products already installed along with some other system
management tools? I haven't heard anything lately. I thought there
used to be a notesfile for CVMS, but I looked around and didn't find
    anything.

I think the C may stand for Common.

CVMS is I think similar to EASE which is/was in use in Europe.

| | Well, there is no COMPRESS or EXPAND in OpenVMS, so it's difficult to
speculate as to what these CVMS commands might do. ZIP/UNZIP works
just fine between VAX and Alpha (and most anything else).

If they were self-extracting (as in .*-DCX_AXPEXE etc.) this might be
    the expected behaviour.
