Recently installed an Alpha 4100 with OpenVMS 6.2-1h but the ERRFMT is not
behaving as expected. I checked note #12 but the ERFMT is not actually
crashing. Several errlog.sys files have been created but in a matter of
a couple of days it gets corrupted. Below is an example of the latest
corruption:

Analyze/error has not been updated to work with Alphaserver 4100's. You
need to use Decevent.

Excuse my ignorance...Does DECevent comes within OpenVMS or is it a
layered products that must be installed ? Where can I find more info
on DECevent.
Thanks in advance

DECEVENT
On Alpha it seems to be standard out of the box (although the V7.1
release notes seem to say that it becomes then separately installed).
It is not on my VAX VMS V6.2 system.

you have to install DECevent separately and on the AS4100 you also
need a new knowledge database which understands the FRU V4 format.
The Rawhide sends a config entry to the errorlog, which I've seen
to be over 10000 bytes large on certain machines. ANA/ERR can't handle
that, and DECevent can (if you use the latest kit).
So on a rawhide system you can never analyze an errorlog file with
ANA/ERR if there is a config entry in it, you really do need DECevent.
BTW, DECevent also understands and decodes entries much better than
ANA/ERR.

re .4
> you have to install DECevent separately
I have it on a reasonably recently installed from scratch (i.e. I can
still remember what I installed and noone else has installed anything)
Alpha running V6.2 so I suggest that for V6.2 it does not have to be
installed separately.
The V7.1 release notes imply that it is also standard with V7.0 but
with V7.1 (and presumably later) one does have to install separately.

correct, I install a fresh V7.1 on a AS4100 and the DECevent kit
is on the V7.1 media, but you have to install it separately. And
if it is a AS4100, then you have also to pull the latest KNB for
the Rawhide.
