    USING SLS AND ABS SIMULTANOUSLY

A customer of mine wants to use SLS 2.8A for backing up Open VMS and
ABS V2.1 for archiving WNT clients. We want to store the save sets of
both platforms on the same tape media used in a TZ877 jukebox.

Question: is it possible to store WNT gtar files and VMS save sets on
    the same tape media?

SLS and ABS use the same volume database, so this should work
    theoretically!

    Please provide your comments.

    Regards Guenter

| Guenter,

If SLS has used a tape in that jukebox, it is allocated to SLS.
If ABS wants to allocate a tape, it has to find either a free tape
or a tape that has been previously allocated to ABS. They will
not be able to use the same tapes, but they can use the same
    media_type.

If you were doing both of the backups from ABS (OpenVMS and WNT)
they could both be written to the same tapes.

If you have more questions about that, let me know.

    Chris
