    I haven't heard anything about this behavior. 
    
    Can the customer (or someone with a copy of the database) monitor 
    disk performance, etc on the backup and then the restore. 
    
    I certainly am interested in finding out why this is happening.  (Kind
    of important to be able to restore quickly in event of disaster).
