Hi,
There is a customer report that they cannot "set host" from Phase IV node to
Phase V node and vice versa through 4 Cisco router. However, there is no
problem when "set host" from Phase IV to Phase IV or Phase V to Phase V.
But there is no problem for Digital Unix running DECnet/OSI, the problem
only found on VAX systems.
Below is the diagram:
[Phase IV]----(Cisco)--T1---(Cisco) ------[Phase IV]
  host | | | host
	   |Ethernet |Ethernet |
	   | | |Ethernet
[Phase V]--| (Cisco)----T1---(Cisco)-----|
  host |
						      |-----[Phase V]
                                                             host
Software version:
Phase IV:	OpenVMS V6.2
Phase V:	OpenVMS 6.1 DECnet/OSI 6.1 ECO7
                DEC Unix 3.2c DECnet/OSI 3.2-0
Symptoms:
1) All the DECnet/OSI setting are default and all DECnet routing are
   on the same area.
2) Phase V to Phase IV does not work, no message get.
But set host works for Digital Unix Phase V host to VAX phase IV host.
3) Everything is fine if the destination host is separated by less than
   2 Cisco routers.
4) Set host works for hosts on the same segments.
5) No console message at all (according to the customer).
Is there anyone face a similar case before? Any problem with the
Cisco or DECnet/OSI V6.1? Any ideas?
Thanks for your help in advance.

| Kenneth, It's almost certainly Cisco bugs or else Cisco configuration errors. It is extremely unlikely to be DECnet/OSI (even old versions, like 6.1), and it is even less likely to be a problem with PhaseIV DECnet. Try a different notesfile ;-) Regards, John | |||||

| Try setting the routing mode on the DECnet/OSI for OpenVMS system to segrargated (which is the default for DECnet/OSI for UNIX). | |||||
