From time to time people enter notes asking about which VMS fix kits should
be installed. I have not seen a full list of recommended kits, so I have
entered this note, which lists kits with a brief summary of the sorts of
problems which they resolve.

I also searched through this notesfile for references to fix kits and did find
others listed, but I have not included them as I am not sure what relevance
they have to network software, such as DECnet/OSI. If anyone can add to this
list then please do so (Vera, I think that you have some favourites that I
have not listed?). I would be particularly interested in brief/cryptic
descriptions of the most important fixes for each additional kit (in much
the same way as my summaries below).

ALPSYS17_061 		Fixes process hangs and failed IO synchronisation

VAXLOAD02_070 		Fixes DECnet/OSI proxy problems, plus a number of
			other security related problems. (On VMS V7.0 it
			fixes the hang on boot introduced by VAXLOAD01_070.)

VAXPHV02_070		Fix *very* *slow* MOP downline loads. Fix crashes and
			other problems in Ethernet and FDDI drivers and in
			NET$CSMACD and NET$FDDI

VAXPHV02_062		Fix *very* *slow* MOP downline loads. Fix crashes and
			other problems in Ethernet and FDDI drivers and in
			NET$CSMACD and NET$FDDI

VAXPHV04_061		Fix crashes and other problems in Ethernet and FDDI
			drivers and in NET$CSMACD and NET$FDDI

VAXRMS02_062		Fix various RMS problems for VMS V6.2. Also, fix
			problem which may leave Network processes in a state
			where they cannot be deleted, but will loop in an
			Exec mode AST.

VAXRMS04_061		Fix lots and lots of critical RMS problems for VMS V6.1.

VAXSHAD09_061		Pool expansion problems affecting DECnet/OSI (and

VAXSYS04_061		Note: This kit was released as CSCPAT_1182.
			Fix problem in GETSYI when requesting DECNET_FULLNAME,
			the length is incorrectly returned as 256.

VAXSYS08_062		Fix problem resulting from large values for CTLPAGES,
			which caused NET$ACP, DNS$Server, NET$EVD, etc to
			consume all their pagefile quota and then fail.

VAXUAF01_070		Stop LOGIN from hanging when using AUTHORIZE. Fix (for
			VMS V6.1 only) AUTHORIZE to process Phase V proxies
			correctly

    Hi John,
    
    ALPLAN04_062 and ALPBOOT06_062 have been released and fix toms of
    Ethernet drivers problems relating to EWx0_MODE issues.  This kit also
    provides support for the newer DE500-AA controller, important since the
    DE500-XA is in short supply and being retired.
