    Hello,
    	I have a requirement from customer to backup 280GB of Data in 2 Hr.
    The database is Informix ,the backup method is to run 5 different backup
    instances at the same time.
    The propose hardware is 8400 5/440 4cpus 2GB memory /UNIX & NSR  4 HSZ50 
    w / rz29b x 100 units. 
    How can I configure tape to achieve the requirement with smallest cost?

	It would help to know more detail about how the disks are connected to the system to make sure there isn't a disk bottleneck. In particular, SCSI adapters - what kind (KZPSA?) and how many (at least 4)? Disks - how are the distributed amongst the HSZs? I also need to make a couple more assumptions: You're backing up to locally connected tape. The database is shut down during the backup. The database data is at least 2:1 compressible. (If it is less compressible, you will need more tape drives. Give that these are all reasonable, you should be looking at five or six TZ89 drives to deliver 140 GB/hr (~40 MB/sec). I think your best bet might be a TL896, with 176 cartridges and 6 TZ89 drives. You'll need at least three KZPSA to connect the TL896 to the system, using one SCSI bus per pair of tape drives. You can also look at the performance/sizing guidelines in note 43. Hope this helps, Wes

	My recommendation would be to use 1 TZ89 per KZPSA so the adapter is not a bottleneck.

	since this is an Informix Database backing up, you cannot use any other NetWorker tool than save, or perhaps the raw disk (rawasm) save to do it, which means shutting down the Database to do backups. Also, perhaps, check out the recent white paper (or white paper to be) from ADABAS AG backing up an Informix Database on an 8400 - sadly, I do not know of a published location for said white paper - contact Paul Krneta for details ([email protected])
