544.0. "TLZ07 again" by SWETSC::WESTERBACK (Panta rei) Wed Apr 02 1997 06:49
    A new install of Networker Alpha 4.3 on NT 4.0, TLZ07 tape. For some
    reason it thinks a tape holds only 1100 MB, so that's reported as 100%.
    Then it goes on to put 4 GB on the tape.

    Questions: Why 1100 MB? Is this settable?
    I know that compression is a bit unpredictable, but I always get more
    or less exactly 4 GB. (+/- 50 MB), even when backing system partitions.
    Should I expect more?

    On a Dunix 3.2 system, running Networker 4.2 I get mostly 7800-8000 MB,
    but some tapes are full after 4000 MB. It's never in between. All 120 m
    tapes on a TLZ07. Also a bit strange? Here Networker thinks they should
    hold 8 GB, which means they only reach 50%.

    Rgds,
    Hans

| 544.1 | Tape capacity is a user set value on labeling from command line (not GUI) | DECWET::LENOX | The quiet before the storm | Wed Apr 02 1997 07:57 | 6 |

Please see the html/man page for nsrmm's -c option (or nsrjb & -c)
There is a default capacity for 4mm tape, which you can't override,
which is the 1100MB you are seeing. NetWorker will continue to
write to a tape until it is full because it doesn't depend on the
capacity value.
