I don't believe your server version correctly supports
Digital UNIX V4.0, you'd need 3.2A as a minimum, but
should be using 4.2B is the preferred release. (Don't
switch to 4.2C unless you get Digital UNIX 4.0A).
At the same time I'd recommend switching to V4.3 for
the NT client. I don't recall what problems for 4.2A
were fixed mainly because I don't recall the problem
list for 4.2A.
If you look in topic 2 it gives the guidelines for
using this notes conference and points one to the
kit topics (kits for internal use).

| | Also watch out when doing restores on NT, if you have Quota Manager
running, and exceed the user's quota when restoring, you get strange
    permissions.

| | sorry, I was connected to the wrong server when I gave you that version
the correct version is 3.2a of nsr. I have looked in the notes
conference and have not seen any specific note that discribes my
question. I have also followed your advice and looked at all the spd
and patch info 1-100 and unless I missed it, I found no where that
stats going from version 4.2 to 4.3 of nsr nt client addresses my problem.

When a recover is being done from the nt client - selecting a complete
partition, it does not recover all the levels of permissions. It appears
to add the permissions for prived groups but does not add user groups.
Upon notice of this problem the user wiped out the partition and grabed
the data from an earlier saved partition that was done using SCOPY.

The group used SCOPY from the resource kit to copy the partition out as a
precaution before the disk movement. After they had issues with the
recover from NSR, they call Microsoft support to find out what happened
to the user prermissions and from Microsoft support one of 3 things
could be the issue - NSR is either 1) not saving this information on
the backup and/or 2) not restoring this information on the restore or
    3) does not have this support today.

We are in the process of upgrading to version 4.3 client, but with over
200 clients in 3 sites...working it. Do you think that upgrading will
fix this problem? or is it one of the 3 above?

| | There were problems with file permissions with 4.2A
that were fixed by 4.3. Please report back on whether
4.3 fixes your customer's problem. If it doesn't,
pleaes include an exact way of reproducing it so
we can work on it.
Thanks/Mark
