Questions:
Hi Wizard,
I want to run an X windows application residing on a
Unix machine and want the display on the OpenVMS display.
In the security profile, we have put the name of the unix
machine, the transport protocol (TCPIP) and the user *.
I am using the following command:
rsh /user="root" /pass="****" unix_machine "setenv DISPLAY
ovms_machine:0.0; xclock"
This gives me error:
Can't open display ovms_machine:0.0
When I try to run the decw$clock program and get the
display on the unix_machine, it works.
When I do a remote login from a unix machine to the ovms
machine, and run the above rsh command, with display
set to my current terminal, that also works.
When I do:
set /create /transport=tcpip /node=ovms_machine
and then try to run decw$clock, it gives me the same
error as above.
I wonder whether I am getting the name of the OpenVMS
display right. How do I find what the problem is?
How do I find the name of my OpenVMS display? I
thought it should be the name of the node on the network.
Do we have to register the name of the display with
TCPIP?

Make certain the IP transport has been configured and loaded on OpenVMS.
(This is covered in the DECwindows manuals, and in the Digital TCP/IP
Services for OpenVMS manuals -- specifically in the product management
documentation, in both cases.)
Look in the sys$manager:DECW$SERVER_0_ERROR.LOG log file for information
on the connection failure.
