Hardware:	HiNote VP 575 with any PCMCIA Ethernet adapter,
		e.g. Xircom CE2, CEM2, CEM33.

Problem:	Network does not start - PCMCIA card fails to start

History:	A new VP 575, original German software as supplied.
		The VP does get on the network using the Port replicator.
		It *did* get on the network using a Xircom CEM33 for a few
		hours - thereafter I had no success.

		I deinstalled the Xircom drivers, deinstalled PhoenixCard
		Manager 95. Reinstalled both. No success. With all 3 PCMCIA
		cards, top or lower PCMCIA slot, the Control Panel / System
		/ Device Manager shows a yellow "!" with the message that
		either the card is not installed or the drivers were not
		properly loaded. PhoenixCard Manager shows the card and says
		"Device status - Card not configured" and "Problem - Failed
		to start".

		Everything works excellently, as I said, when I use instead
		the Network Port Replicator.

		At the moment I do not suspect a hardware fault with the
		PCMCIA slots, though it sounds like a possibility.

Any suggestions ?

    Digital is supposed to be getting Xircom to work on updated drivers for
    the Cirrus Logic 6832 PCMCIA controller chip.  Until then none of the
    Xircom cards will work properly on any PC with this chipset.  I know
    it's a pain when Xircom is one of the most popular cards!

I tried to install a DEC DEPCM-BA PCMCIA-Adapter and it was impossible to make
it work.

The VP recognizes allways two types of PCMCIA-Cards

	: DIGITAL-DEPCM-XX
	: Digital Etherworks PCMCIA Turbo Adapter

I tried with different driver version without success

Can someone help mi

    At this stage, I'd suggest use only the cards that are tested in the PC
    Card Compatibility List (on the web).

    Operating System:  Microsoft Windows 95 OSR 2 (shipped with system)
    Ethernet:          Xircom Ethernet+Modem 33.6 (and similar Xircoms)

    Problem:
    --------
    Ethernet function of Xircom Ethernet+Modem device does not function. 
    In the Windows 95 device manager, it will show a yellow "!" with a
    message that the "card is not installed or the drivers were not properly
    loaded".  There is no device conflict.  The modem works fine.

    Solution:
    ---------
    From the Control Panel, in the System applet, select the Device Manager
    tab.  Under the Modem device, you will see the "Xircom CreditCard
    Ethernet+Modem 33.6" device (yes, it shows in the wrong place... it's a
    bug in OSR2 and/or the Xircom install).  Select properties on this device
    and switch to the Resources tab.  You'll see two entries for Memory Range.
    Odds are they are in a high (well over 000D2000) area; too high of a
    range causes the Xircom driver to fail.  (Unknown exactly why.)  Uncheck
    the "Use automatic settings" box and manually force a lower available
    range for both entries.  In our reference system, we used 000D2000-000D2FFF
    for the first and 000D4000-000D7FFF for the second.  (This works well for
    most laptops.)

    Our reference system's Xircom Ethernet+Modem 33.6 looks like this:

    Input/Output Range: 02F8-02FF
    Input/Output Range: 0120-013F
    Interrupt Request:  03
    Memory Range:       000D2000-000D2FFF
    Memory Range:       000D4000-000D7FFF

    Depending on your configuration, your milage may vary.

    Well, after 4 hours of trial and error, I got this combination to work.
    What I had to do was:
    
    1. Without card inserted, manually do "Add Hardware" and supply disk
    (in my case, the floppy was mastered off of the net). Go through the
    full setup, also supplying the Win95 CD when asked.
    
    2. Insert PC card. When the install screen comes up, get to the FINISH
    without trying to manually locate the software.
    
    3. Open System|Device Manager|Network Adapter| and the entry that
    points to the actual DEPCM. Go to the drivers page, and press the
    update driver tab. The screen should then inform you that the device
    is "Plug and Play" (hah) and no driver is required. If you check the 
    resources tab, it should show some resources being used.
    
    4. Reboot. You may actually have to do this between step 2 and 3 as
    well. Device should now appear, working normally. Check the Control
    Panel stuff to make sure. Also, make sure that your Networking stuff
    is set up correctly as well. 
    
    So far, it's been a real voodoo job trying to get the new laptops,
    Win95 OSR2, and things like PCMCIA cards to all cooperate. I'm still
    trying to get my SCSI2 card to work ...
