| | Some time ago I worked at DG with one of the nicest, most spiritual men
that I have ever met. Steve is Greek Orthodox, and as with many first
generation Americans that I have known, very devoted to his family and
    religion.

Shortly after I left DG and started working for DEC, I received a phone
call from him. He had just finished reading a newspaper article in the
Boston Globe about either Danny Ainge or Bruce Hurst, and was made very
aware that every reference to the player was prefaced by some
suggestion of the players' religious persuasion. He became so upset
that these writers would place the fact that these players were Mormon
on a level with their ability (or in a reference to a disagreement...)
that he called the newspaper and complained.

He told me that he spoke with the Sports Editor for what seemed like a
long time, and that he made his point that NO religion should be
mentioned, or ALL religious preferences should be listed .. that these
    personalities were people first!

I personally felt that this was a victory. I have never been truly any
happier than I have been since I joined the Church. I have a testimony
of the Saviour and of Joseph Smith. Yet, as easily as I am able to
share my testimony, I feel that the sacredness of my religion should be
just that -- sacred, and not to be used as a measuring stick of my
personal behaviour in or out of the workplace -- . After all, none of
us are truly perfect --we are all on the road toward that goal.

I was recently hired back to DEC after a three year absence. It's good
to see a couple of familiar names, and I'm glad that you're all in this
    conference.

| | Speaking of Mormons in the workplace, a Mormon or two might want to
check out CHRISTIAN note 471 (which has been opened up as Mormon
    topic).

Though I'm not a Mormon, I expressed the concern that that topic bore
the potential to run the Mormon faith down, and that such a run-down
was inapproriate here at Digital. It might be appropriate for a real
Mormon or two to put in their 2 cents.

| | ah mark, you are so right to be concerned. in days past there were not
very many that had good things to say and many with lies and hate to
expound on. i see garth has tempered his style a little, good thing as
he was close to loosing his livelihood in quest of forcing his view of
Scripture. well, there isn't much sense spending time with those that
will not listen nor discuss but only bash and try to tear down. one
wonders if they have to tear others down to build themselves up. it's
for sure the writers of the books they reference did, and made lots of
    money to boot.
BTW, good to read some of your notes again. always enjoyed your even
manner and insightful discussions. glad to hear from you.
