| | Hi Scott,

I have vague recollections of talks by general authorities who refer to
the fact that women tend to be more spiritually sensitive than men. My
experience bears this out, too, by my observations of the numbers of
sisters that are active compared to the numbers of brethren. The
brethren who are active probably can thank their wives for that, too.

    Your Brother in Christ,
    Rich

| | Agree with Rich in reply 1. The US census that I saw about 10 years
ago indicates more men are born in the US than women. But more
baby boys die than girls and by the time they reach the end of the
teen years there are more girls than boys. I have often thought
that this might be the way the Lord ensures some men will make it, for
if they were left here to tarry they might not.

And just to have a balance, I have seen more than one sister destroy
her husbands faith and desires. But I do agree with Rich that sisters
can have a good influence on their husbands and can help an ordinary
man become a great leader in their own home and in the church.

| | Hi Scott,
I too have pondered this question from time to time. The
Scriptures have some thoughts on this that show how the Lord
feels about the tender thoughts of righteous women.
And also it grieveth me that I must use so much boldness
of speech concerning you, before your wives and children,
many of whose feelings are exceedingly tender and chaste
        and delicate before God, which thing is pleasing unto God;
Book of Mormon, Book of Jacob 2:7
We see here that tender, chaste and delicate feelings are
pleasing unto God. I believe that we can assume such feelings in
his sons are also pleasing to Father. I am of the opinion that
such feelings are far and away in the minority among the male of
the species, whereas these are traits that are by in large
characteristic of the female sex. There are a lot of places we
could go from here.

We could explore the speculative notion that men are given the
priesthood to help them become equal to women.
We could discuss how society teaches (traditions of the fathers)
males that such traits are only allowed in females and males are
under tremendous peer pressure to conform to a coarser norm.
We could stage another full blown battle of the sexes and get
ensnared in the morass of exceptions that are ever more becoming
the norm.
Scott, you have invited me to share my opinion. I would like to do
that. It is not "truth" but is my opinion as the result of my
experience, temporal and spiritual.
I have attended temples in Utah and here in Mesa, Arizona where I live.
In Utah I noticed a higher percentage of women in the sessions that I
attended. Here in Mesa it has been a different story. Every session
I have been to has had an equal number of males or more commonly 20 to 50%
higher in number of males.
Generalizing about humans, in my opinion, is the work of a fool.
Especially when it is about the "Opposite sex" type of humans.
(Isn't that right, Tamara?)
Of course in so saying, I am a fool. Still I, love to do it even
though I am most often proven wrong. I do not dare generalize to
far about your assumption, however, on my experience as it may only
show that more men prefer to go to the evening sessions I usually
go to.

In our Lord's Love,
-gary

| | Hi,
I said I would post my own opinions. I finally have some time where I can do
so.
I do agree with most of what has been said and am thankful for the replies.
I do think women are more righteous than men. I don't know if it is related to
the men being given the task of having to work and earn for his family by the
sweat of his brow.
Let me close my reply by quoting what Joseph F. Smith has said:
There are people fond of saying that women are the weaker
vessels. I don't believe it. Physically, they may be; but
spiritually, morally, religiously and in faith, what man can
match a woman who is really convinced? Daniel had faith to
sustain him in the lion's den, but women have seen their sons
torn from limb to limb, and have endured every torture satanic
cruelty could invent because they believed. They are always
willing to make sacrifices and are peers of men in stability,
Godliness, morality and faith. I can not understand how a man
can be unkind to any woman, much less to the wife of his bosom
and the mother of his children, and I am told that there are
those who are absolutely brutal, but they are unworthy the name
of men. I believe that most women are very devoted to their
children, desiring for them most ardently all that is good, and
I loathe with every fibre of my soul the son who turns against
the mother who gave him birth. (Gospel Doctrine. pg. 352)
