| | You might get a better answer to this in one of the Networks, gateways,
DECnet, MailBus, etc., conferences. Assuming a suitable router, as for
example is present on EasyNet, ALL-IN-1 can trivially generate the
address strings necessary to get to Internet.

| | Assuming you have Message Router, then the UMC gateway ("ULTRIX Mail
Connection") will connect you to SMTP.

.2Assuming you have Message Router, then the UMC gateway ("ULTRIX Mail
.2Connection") will connect you to SMTP.

In our case we do / will have Message Router.
Does the UMC gateway run on VMS or on Ultrix?? (the Decdirect catalogue
shows it as an Ultrix license only??).

Is there any alternatives to UMC - 'cos the cost of this one gateway is
more than the customer is paying for a small 3100, with VMS and
Message Router and X.400 and DEC MAIlworks gateways!

    Cheers, Chris

| | If they're getting the X.400 gateway (MRX?) then surely they can get to
SMTP / Internet via X.400-land? Not the neatest solution, but it should work
(shouldn't it, he asks navely?). *All* they need to do is get the mail
addresses right :-)
I tried seeing what the Easynet Internet gateways use, but both VBORMC and
DECWRL (the only ones I know of) run U*ix; do we have an internal Internet
gateway on OpenVMS?

I think so, when you use the following syntax...

    To: _SMTP%"""[email protected]"""

ALL-IN-1 invokes VMS mail and of you go.

I think that the example in .5 is a real person employed here at the
CSC and i bet he doesn't want to get lots of test messages.
