| | Hello Julie,
I am afraid that this is known behaviour. For all non-priv users,
ALL-IN-1 tries to access all ACCESS.DAT's on the system.
For "OAFC$SYSMAN users" ALL-IN-1 just reads the partition.
Difference when System: field filled in was solved in 3.0-1 I think.
Tell the customer this is the price he/she has to paid for
a proven security model....................
Regards,
Jan

    Julie,

For local IAD, do not explicitly give a node name.
Is there any difference between IAD from the V3.0A system and the
V3.0-1 machine. We did improve the normal user performance of IAD, but
off hand I can't remember which patch included this.

Management IADs will be instantaneous. As the other chap said, if
you're the manager you have access to all drawers on the system, so
this is basically just listing PARTITION.DAT.

    Kevin.

| | Hi,

The customer's v3.0a machine does seem quicker, but this is only a
development machine so you would not expect it to be as slow as the
live (v3.0-1) machine. I have found the relevant point in the v3.0a
    release notes which explains that

2.4.22 Improved Performance - Index of Available Drawers

Improved performance of Index of Available Drawers (IAD)
by reducing the number of calls to the File Cabinet
                  Server.

Improved performance when reading drawer information by
adding checks that a user has typed exit, in order to
                  leave the Read operation faster.

Does anyone know if non-priv'd users have seen a great performance
improvement as I can then tell the customer to upgrade.

    	Thanks,
    			Julie

    Julie,

Really the customer should upgrade to V3.0A as soon as is humanly
    possible.

There are a LOT of useful fixes, in particular with the File
Cabinet Server. If your customer uses shared drawers (as I guess they
are if want to use IAD a lot), then this alone is a good enough
    justification for upgrading to MUPA.

    Kevin.
