3689.0. "How to restart EmptyWastebasket batch ?" by HTSC19::SIMONLAU () Wed Dec 22 1993 02:15

    Hi,
    
    A customer running ALL-IN-1 V2.3 has a problem in doing Empty WasteBasket 
    batch job. He run this batch job within a fixed period each day,
    after that period the ALL-IN-1 would be shutdown and other jobs
    continues. As more and more documents in the Wastebasket, there's not
    enough time for this batch get completed. After ALL-IN-1 is shutdown,
    the batch would be terminated and the process couldn't continue. Is it
    possible to restart the EW batch after ALL-IN-1 shutdown ? Rerun the
    EW batch the next day can't solve the problem, as EW get its work done
    in alphbetical order of the username, those with W,Y and Z couldn't
    get his wastebasket clean forever !

	Hi, There are two main ways of splitting the job up: a) The EW job has the option of reorganising users' File Cabinets. If you answer "N" to this option, you can run housekeeping job ROF to perform that task. b) You can make use of the DEPARTMENTS scrolled region, so that you can have 1 or more jobs to perform EW. Each EW job can process 1, many or all departments. Cheers Stuart

	Re: .1 Stuart, Thanks for your helpful reply. That customer has over thousands of ALL-IN-1 users, and over hundreds of departments defined. Doing EW interactively would be impossible ( I can see only 3 lines for entering 'including departments only' in the EW of Schedule Housekeeping Procedures ! ) Would it be possible to do it in batch mode ? ( So that all can be pre-assigned and run altogether in batch ! ) Thanks a lot. Simon

	Re .2 Hi Simon, The Department field may look as if it's only 3 lines long, but it is in fact a scrolled region so you can enter as many as you like. Does that help? Cheers Stuart

But ... since this job is done daily by the customer, they wouldn't be happy to enter hundreads of departments each day, of course. Could it be done in batch mode ? ( That is to say , one batch to EW of department 1-50, another for department 51-100, and so on ... .) So that the customer's daily job would become much easy. Thanks again. Merry X'mas ! Simon

	Hi Simon. Stuart is taking a well-earned day of rest today, but he has set a few jobs to run on Christmas day... I may have missed something, but your customer would not have to 'enter hundreds of departments each day', I don't think. They could do it once, establishing non-overlapping times for the sets of departments, e.g. 23:00 for depts 1-50, 23:30 for depts 51-100, and so on, and then use the 'Repeat cycle (in days): 1' to ensure that the job ran in the same way again, next day. That is, departments split only entered once. No guarantees that it will work though ... ;-). DaveT
