Is the DTR$dtr_symbol construct read-only? I can't seem to write to
a DTR symbol from ALL-IN-1 this way, even if I've previously declared
it in Datatrieve, and even if I try to assign the same number of bytes
    as I declared.

    Thanks for any help.

APR volume 1 page 5-2 mentions DTR$ symbols though the associated table
it refers you doesn't list them.

Looking at the source code helps and the comments for OA$SYM_GET_SYMBOL
list DTR$symbols as valid whereas the comments for OA$SYM_PUT_SYMBOL don't
which to a novice like me would suggest they are as you suspect
    read-only.

Of course i've never used Datatrieve and the only help STARS gave me
was a Don Vickers note from Nov-1990 (the v2.4 conference note 722)
and an old article form our Dead Products Consultant Dave Zaniewski
    written in August of 1989.
