2136.0. "Performance on Housekeeping procedures." by KERNEL::SIMPSONR (fred) Thu Jan 21 1993 09:48
 Hello,
I have a customer who has run the Empty Wastebaskets Housekeeping procedure
twice. He also takes the option to reorganise users' File Cabinets. Each time
it did not complete because he had to stop the procedure, the second time it
ran for 29 hours before he stopped it. The log file shows no errors and the
process up until it was terminated was not hung. It had reached J in the
alphabet, and it shows in the log file that each user appears to take 1 hour
40 minutes approximately to be processed. This procedure on his ALL-IN-1 V2.4
system took only four hours in total to run.
Does anyone have any ideas, the performance of the rest of his system has not
changed. His 40+ users say ALL-IN-1 does not appear to be any slower to use.
 Regards,
 Richard Simpson.

| | User Housekeeping procedures in V3.0 is based on PARTITION instead of
    PROFILE.

    Two possible options to check:

    1. Is the procedure looping through the user population over and over
    again?

    2. Have the users created alot of shared drawers. What is the number of
    PARTITION records that you have.

Over an hour per user seems a bit weird. Please call me at DTN
    264-0874.

    regards
