Note 59.3 ALL-IN-1 ASSETS and V3.0 3 of 3

Hello,
We have a unique customer situation regarding SFCP. The customer is
just now getting ready to upgrade their ALL-IN-1 to V2.4. They currently
have the rel. 1.1 of SFCP and now want the rel. 1.2. Even though the
package was retired, the library is willing to allow the sales rep to
sell it to the customer since the customer does not have any intention
of going to ALL-IN-1 3.0 in the near future.
The Support Manager is concerned about selling it to the customer due
to the fact that it isn't supported. He has a question on whether the
upgrade from 1.1 to 1.2 is "easy" and the customer can do it
themselves, or if they should sell the customer some "time". The
kicker on this one is that the customer is doing the upgrade THIS
WEEKEND.
Thanks for any input you can give!
Patty

Patty,
I have never done the SFCP 1.1 --> 1.2 Upgrade, but have heard
that it is pretty painless. Too bad the customer does not want to go
to ALL-IN-1 3.0. Shared Filing is so much better than SFCP.

Patty,
Unfortunately your situation is not as unique as it seems since here
at the CSC we still see as many if not more upgrades to v2.4 as we
do to v3.0.
Bear in mind also that if the customer's upgrade to 1.2 goes wrong
then it is not covered under whatever support contract they have since
the last resting place of any sort of world-wide SFCP support retired
SFCP effective 31-DEC-1992 - So it is now really a 'dead product'
One other thing to note is that if your customer intends to apply the
WPS-PLUS v4 Option Kit to their ALL-IN-1 v2.4 system then they
will need to obtain the SFCP R1.2A kit also.
The CSC will however continue to do 'best-effort' support though in
these revenue-generating times at DIGITAL it may not be without some
money up-front from the customer.
