Within an entry form you can specify a .file directive that points to a
data file on a remote node i.e. wayout::oa$data:wombat.dat,key. You
can use this file but when you come to exit the entry form the decnet
logical link is left open and only closed once the user has exited
ALL-IN-1. Is there any reason for this and is there a way round the
problem? The reson I ask is that a customer is complaining about the
number of logical links being used on his system and never being closed
down.
As an aside I have tried manually disconnecting the logical link in NCP
but that seems to cause a problem whereby ALL-IN-1 thinks the link is
still there and say's it can't find the file and never tried to reopen
the link.
I'm sure this problem has been around for years but I can't seem to
find it anywhere, can someone confirm or deny my fading memory?

| 1668.1 | DUMP_CACHE | IOSG::NEWLAND | Richard Newland, IOSG, REO1-D/4A | Tue Oct 27 1992 17:03 | 13 |
ALL-IN-1 keeps track of recently or frequently accessed data sets and caches, or keeps them open, to improve performance. The DUMP_CACHE function flushes all data sets that ALL-IN-1 has cached and therefore closes the file. I suspect that the data set is being cached and thus the file and DECnet logical link is remaining open. The DUMP_CACHE function will accept an option parameter to specify the name of the data set you want flushed from the cache. Richard

Clarification: DUMP_CACHE entryformname for application datasets which use an entry form to access the dataset. ~K.
