Two projects that I am looking into, which I thought might
have already been done (ALL-IN-1 V2.4, VMS V5.4-3):
1) A way to restart the empty-wastebaskets/janitor procedure
from a particular point in the User Profile. In other words,
if the job should be interrupted after emptying user LAPLACE,
to be able to restart the job beginning with LAPLACE rather
than going back to ALLSTON at the beginning.
2) An easy way for ALL-IN-1 users who don't know DCL to copy
each other's distribution lists. Currently I have a user
create a blank distribution list and then I copy the VMS file
of the other user's distribution list to the blank file.
What I envision is a two-step process where the first user
(the one with the distribution list) enables the list for
copying, and the second user runs a script that creates the
blank list and does the copy.
Any input, pointers, comments would be appreciated. Thanks!

One method to transfer distribution lists is by EM. User 1 selects
distribution list as current document under WP. Then Sends the
distribution list. This sends the distribution list as an attachment.
User 2 reads the mail message and does a FA into the DISTRIBUTION LISTS
folder.

Jeff,
You have to be careful with that approach - I believe that it doesn't
work fully with System Distribution Lists for instance since you can't
File the Attachment into OA$SYSTEM_LISTS and not all Administrators
have DCL access to enable them to use the other approach which is to
create an empty dist list and copy the file in at DCL.
With personal distribution lists you need to be aware that the new
distribution list ends up in a [.DOCn] subdirectory and not in [.MSG]
where it should be.
Just some things to think about

| 1611.3 | There is a way (though it isn't obvious) | IOSG::SHOVE | Dave Shove -- REO-D/3C | Thu Oct 15 1992 10:38 | 6 |
I think that the Admin. can file the attachment into a private DL and
then use the COpy option on the System DL menu to make it into a system
one. (The Admin can, in fact, SELect private DLs from the SELect
option, though it isn't obvious!)
