The Pricing and Announcement Committee approved the retirement of
DECnet/SNA DISOSS Document Exchange Facility (DDXF) and EDE with IBM
DISOSS (EDE/DISOSS) on March 19th. Attached is the Sales Update article
relating to these product retirements.

DECNET/SNA VMS DISOSS Document Exchange Facility (DDXF) and External
Document Exchange with IBM DISOSS (EDE DISOSS) Retirement

DESCRIPTION
The principal use of both DDXF and EDE DISOSS was to provide access to
DISOSS Distribution Services, the "Mail" system for IBM SNA based
office systems, such as Personal Services/CICS. EDE DISOSS provided an
ALL-IN-1 Menu interface for sending messages to IBM while DDXF had a
command line and VMSmail interface. This function is much better
provided by VAX Message Router/SNADS Gateway which provides a much
higher level of interworking between Digital and IBM Mail Systems.
MR/SNADS is the recommended replacement product for mail
interconnection applications.
A secondary use of these products was to access DISOSS Library
Services, a document storage and retrieval system for IBM mainframes.
DISOSS Library Services gained a reputation among IBM customers for
being an application that was very difficult to manage and for its high
consumption of machine and disk resources. Therefore, few IBM customers
use DISOSS Library Services even if they have installed DISOSS on their
mainframes for mail. No replacement is proposed for this use of
Library Service.
AVAILABILITY
Effective March 23, 1992, the following products were placed on
Maintenance-Only status:
o DECNET/SNA VMS DISOSS Document Exchange Facility (DDXF), SPD
26.72.05, UPI 042
o EXTERNAL Document Exchange with IBM DISOSS (EDE
DISOSS), SPD 26.92.03, UPI 761
New orders will no longer be accepted, and existing orders will be
filled. Ninety days later, July 1, 1992, the model numbers will be
deleted from the price file.
SERVICE
Contract service support will continue for 18 months (until January
1994).
