714.0. "V3.0 Release Notes Problem" by ODIXIE::RYANKE (Kevin Ryan @MTO DTN 360-5115) Tue May 19 1992 16:38

    My customer just called stating that they could not print the release
    notes to V3.0 (or portions thereof) from their CD-ROM. They called the
    CSC who said they recognized there was a problem and to contact their
    local sales rep (me). I cannot find said release notes here as yet.
    The customer says they need the US Marketing and American Language
    portions.

    Any help would sure be appreciated.

    Thanks - Kevin Ryan @MTO, ODIXIE::RYANKE, DTN 360-5115

    Kevin,

    The release notes are part of the software not the documentation so
    you have to start the installation from the CD using OPTIONS N
    choose the option to print the release notes following the
    documentation included in the installation guide.
    What you get is just the language release notes - it's not split up
    into language and market anymore.

    I'd love to tell you the exact steps but it would appear that my
    installation guide has already been stolen - presumably by the person
    who took your call.

    Regards,

714.2Didn't workODIXIE::RYANKEKevin Ryan @MTO DTN 360-5115Tue May 19 1992 19:5210
    Thanks for the reply

    When I told my customer that, she said she had done that and also tried
    it with the help of the CSC, but it printed out information about the
    different parts and where to find them and there is nothing there.

    The lady is FAXing me the output and I will update this with that
    information as it is available.

    Thanks - Kevin
714.3Just the FAX m'amODIXIE::RYANKEKevin Ryan @MTO DTN 360-5115Tue May 19 1992 20:0427
    Here's the FAX from the customer:

    **************************************************************************

    The on-line release notes for ALL-IN-1 V3.0 are split by component and
    installed from separate media (See the installation documentation for
    more information). Once installed they can be obtained by printing the
    following files.

    SYS$HELP:A1Cxx030.RELEASE_NOTES - Market component related.
    SYS$HELP:A1Lxx030.RELEASE_NOTES  - Language component related.

    Where xx = Market id and yy Language id.

    Eg.

    SYS$HELP:A1CUS030.RELEASE_NOTES - US Market component notes.
    SYS$HELP:A1LUS030.RELEASE_NOTES - AMERICAN Language component notes
    SYS$HELP:A1LDE030.RELEASE_NOTES - GERMAN Language component notes
    SYS$HELP:A1LFR030.RELEASE_NOTES - FRENCH Language component notes

    ***********************************************************************

    Again, any help will be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks - Kevin
714.4Typing without a doc setAIMTEC::WICKS_ALiverpool win the F.A Cup again!Tue May 19 1992 20:3013
    Kevin,

    And what is in the file A1LUS030.RELEASE_NOTES - The FAX you included
    is the contents of the 'dummy' A1030.RELEASE_NOTES. Ask them to look
    for the other file.

    I am told by friends who still have their copies of the Installation
    Guide that this is fully documented in Chapter 2. Make sure thay have
    actually followed those steps whatever they are.

    Regards,

    Andrew.D.Wicks
714.5Dummy file in A1LUS030ODIXIE::RYANKEKevin Ryan @MTO DTN 360-5115Tue May 19 1992 21:4812
    The FAX or the .3 - dummy file was in the A1LUS03.RELEASE_NOTES file.

    The customer says that the ALL-IN-1 Helpline said that the release
    notes did not make the MAY92 Consolidated SW Distribution CD-ROM.

    They are sure they have followed the correct procedures. Even worked
    it out through the ALL-IN-1 Helpline who told them to call us.

    Is there a way to copy a file so I can print it and send it to them by
    FEDx? .TXT, .LN03 or .PS is fine.

    Thanks - Kevin
714.6In the mailAIMTEC::WICKS_ALiverpool win the F.A Cup again!Tue May 19 1992 22:1316
    Kevin,

    OK now I'm really confused. You see I sit (I wouldn't use the word
    WORK) with the ALL-IN-1 Helpline people here in Alpharetta and I
    actually have their only copy of the MAY 1992 CD and I'm told that I
    even wrote the STARS article that said what was wrong with the MAY CD
    (see note 683 in ABBOTT::A1INFO) and it doesn't seem to match what your
    customer is seeing.

    Tell you what i'll mail you a copy of the REAL release notes off-line
    and we'll forget all about this (hopefully)

    Regards,

    Andrew.D.Wicks

714.7Thank youODIXIE::RYANKEKevin Ryan @MTO DTN 360-5115Tue May 19 1992 22:5212
    Thanks again for the response.

    I do not have access to A1INFO but I appreciate your being frustrated
    with this.

    I am just relaying what the customer is telling me. I would be
    grateful if you would send the release notes to me or I will send you
    their name and address by VAXmail and you can send it to them directly.

    I appreciate your help.

    Thanks - Kevin
714.8Solved !!!!!!!!!!AIMTEC::WICKS_ALiverpool win the F.A Cup again!Tue May 19 1992 23:3121
    Kevin

    Aha we've cracked it i'm so happy i'm going out to get a few beers
    just as soon as it stops raining!

    Instead of doing
    @SYS$UPDATE:VMSINSTAL A1030 device:[direct] OPTIONS N
    you do:
    @SYS$UPDATE:VMSINSTAL A1LUS030 device:[direct] OPTIONS N
    and that gets you the magic Language release notes.

    Notice the subtle change in the product name - I'm glad I stayed
    with cassettes and never changed to CDs.

    I've tried it having borrowed an Install Guide and a CD player and sure
    enough it prints a whopping 199 blocks full of release notes.

    Regards,

    Andrew.D.Wicks
