478.0. "Server question/Tech Update course" by POBOX::LIDEN () Mon Apr 13 1992 20:06
    From yet another Technical Update course, this time in sunny
    California!

    Each student has a user account and a make believe Manager account.

    From their manager account, when they go into MGT-MFC-MS, they see in
    the window that server TRN6::"73" is stopped, but yet from the manager
    account I can see it is enabled/running.

    When they try and do EST to enable server tracing they recieve "Invalid
    authentication information by the File Cabinet Server".

    Any ideas would be appreciated.

    As before, thanks in advance,

    Kevin

| 478.1 | do they have OAFC$SYSMAN?? | CHRLIE::HUSTON |  | Mon Apr 13 1992 20:20 | 15 |

    re .0

    The VMS account the users are logged into must hold the OAFC$SYSMAN
    rights ID.

    Whenever there is a invalid authent error via MFC ... menus the
    server shows up as stopped.

    Off the top of my head I can't think of another reason for getting
    the invalid authent error back from a system management call to
    the FCS.

| 478.2 | A better message would be nice | IOSG::TALLETT | Just one more fix, then we can ship... | Mon Apr 13 1992 20:37 | 9 |
|  |
    	I asked the author of the MS interface to trap the Authentification
    	messages and print a message like "You do not hold the OAFC$SYSMAN
    	identifier".

    	He liked the idea, but it never made it into the product...

    Regards,
    Paul
