| | Plug the 3270's into a DECserver 550 type terminal server. Then plug
that terminal server both onto the Ethernet, and via co-axial whatsits
to the IBM Front End controller.

This way the 3270 people can use BOTH IBM for their "normal" work, and
use the VAX and ALL-IN-1 IOS or ALL-IN-1 MAIL for VT's for their Office
    and Mail system....

To elaborate on .1, there is a special VT emulation card for 3270's
for the DECserver 500 series, that allows the 3270 to emulate a
VT and connect via LAT on an ethernet. I've seen it in use and it
works great! I don't think double-width/height characters work
because the hardware can't do them, but it gets round the deadly
problem of 3270's only working in blockmode.

Note this only works if you are on a LAN, if you have a WAN then
it gets tougher, although this is a very popular request. There
are some third party tools that will route through a mainframe
(and use LOTS of CPU) and get you to the VAX, but if you are on
a WAN then you are stuck with blockmode because the 3274
controllers (the bit that the 3270 is hooked to, think terminal
server - but they are not as good) don't do anything but blockmode.

There is also support for 3270 terminals in an FMS add-on package
but I don't think it would work with ALL-IN-1 as it still uses
    	blockmode.

You should also cross-post in SMAUG::SNAGWY, but like I said, it
is very popular, so scan the conference for ALL-IN-1 before you
post. (Although the DECserver 500's are DECservers, the IBM
interconnect peole did the 3270/VT emulation stuff, hence SMAUG).

    	HTH,

    Regards,
    Paul
