| 174.1 | Bad luck I think... | KETJE::CAPPELLEMANS | The Dark side of the \FORCE | Thu Mar 05 1992 14:25 | 11 |
|  | HI,
I don't think that PostScript files can be seen under ALL-IN-1, but you
can of course always customize ALL-IN-1 to add that functionnality, the only
things that you will need is a PostScript viewer and a workstation to display it.
Talking about time to display a graphic, it depends on 1) the complexity of the
graphic and 2) the quality of the PostScript code (some applications produce
afwull PostScript code taking a loooooooooot of time to print).
Best regards
Pierre

    Thanks Pierre. I had the impression that this was actually an existing
    functionality that had been built-into the product.

| 174.3 | Are you thinking of SIXEL printers, maybe? | IOSG::SHOVE | Dave Shove -- REO-D/3C | Thu Mar 05 1992 16:03 | 13 |
| | No - what you may have heard is that you can print PostScript to a
    non-PostScript printer with v3.0.

    It will use the DECprint utility (command name PSPRINT) to convert the
    PostSript to SIXEL. PSPRINT is a licensed product (not included with
    ALL-IN-1 IOS), so this doesn't work if that product isn't installed.

    I use this to print PostScript (received via ALL-IN-1 IOS mail) on my
    LA75 at home - it works well, although it is a bit s-l-o-w! (It also
    shows up the ancient state of my LA75 - one slightly dull pin really
    messes up pretty pictures!)

| | If you're talking about viewing a PostScript file that is in your file
    cabinet, and you have a workstation or DECwindows terminal, you could
    do a customization using the CDA viewer. We did this with ALL-IN-1
    Services for DECwindows. That product probably does much more than
    you're interested in doing, but the viewer customizations could be done
    on a normal ALL-IN-1 system without a lot of problems. We have it
    starting up 3 CDA viewers - one each for WP, EM and TM.

    If you're interested in this, send me mail for more details.
