| | Applying the KISS principle, upgrade VMS, then decwindows v3. Otherwise
it all gets confusing around which files you want etc.

And when you install v3, it might be worthwhile set DECW$IGNORE_VERSION to TRUE
as I think the KITINSTAL looks for version 5.4 only...

I did not set this and had no problems installing the V3 kit on V5.4-1 (after
I found enough disk space!).

| | Andy,
The reason I asked was that I was not sure if VMS 5.4-1 installs
new versions of any of the DECwindows images, in which case order of
installation would be important. Yes, I was expecting to go to VMS V5.4-1
  before I did DECWindows V3.

| | Hi...

So, the best way is to do VMS then DECwindows....

Will it work the other way round??

| | The V5.4-1 update appears to modify only one DECwindows file, but
I agree that the safest thing is to do the VMS installation first.
