2047.0. "-F-EXBYTLM during VMS V5.2 boot(in DECW$STARTUP)" by HGOSPS::JOHNKWAN () Tue Jan 16 1990 05:14
<<URGENT!>>
One of our customers got the following fatal error message:
%SYSTEM-F-EXBYTLM, exceeded byte count quota
when he boots his 8530 under VMS V5.2 .
PLS NOTE : He had not installed DECWindow when installing VMS V5.2 .
(He answered "NO" when asked whether to install DECWindow or not)
During the bootup, the STARTUP.COM started the DECW$STARTUP.COM
within which the error occurred: (This is done by the original procedure,
the user had not amended the STARTUP.COM)
.
.
.
$! Run the startup procedure as a subprocess.
$!
$ IF F$TRNLNM("DECW$IGNORE_SUBPROCESS") .NES. "" THEN GOTO subprocess_ok
$ IF F$GETJPI(0,"MASTER_PID") .NES. F$GETJPI(O,"PID") THEN GOTO subprocess_ok
$ IF F$GETJPI(0,"PRCNAM") .NES. "STARTUP" THEN GOTO subprocess_ok
$ SPAWN/NOWAIT/NOLOG/INPUT=n1:/PROCESS=DECW$STARTUP/TABLES=DCLTABLES -
@sys$manager:decw$startup
%SYSTEM-F-EXBYTLM, exceeded byte count quota ! <<<<<<<ERROR<<<<<<
$ DEASSIGN DECW$IGNORE_DIRECT
$ DEASSIGN DECW$IGNORE_WORKSTATION
$ goto get_product
.
.
.
The SYSTEM account had Bytlm set to 80000,
the SYSGEN parameters MAXBUF was set to 16384, and
PQL_MBYTLM was set to 1024.
The user had increased the value of Bytlm to 120,000 & 1,200,000
but the error message persists.
The 8530 machine has 32Mb main memory, when the user moved the system pack
to another machine 8550 with 48Mb main memory and do an autogen, the system
started up without the error message.
What's the problem ?
How can I do to take away the error message ?
(The user cannot bear such an error in his system)
Moreover, what's the impact of this error (A FATAL ERROR!)?
Many Thanks.
