2032.0. "DECW-W-NODEVICE error" by CRBOSS::LEMONS (And we thank you for your support.) Thu Jan 11 1990 19:01
I didn't see any note talking about this, and I'm at the hair-pulling
    stage, so . . .

I have a VAXstation 3200 on which I just installed VMS V5.3. During
the installation, I requested that ALL of DECwindows be installed.
When the system boots, the last lines that appear in the startup
    dialogue are:

%DECW-W-NODEVICE, No graphics device found on this system.
-DECW-I-NODECW, DECwindows graphics drviers will not be loaded

And yet, this exact same hardware boots into a VMS V5.3 cluster and
starts DECwindows without a problem. VAX-VMS and DECNET PAKs are in
place and current on my stand-alone disk. Except for this two above,
    the system boots without errors.

    What am I missing?

    Thanks!

| 2032.3 | Bug in installation procedure??? | ALLVAX::BEERMAN | Charlie Beerman | Sat Jan 13 1990 11:47 | 12 |
| | I had the same thing happen to me this week. I installed
   VMS5.3/DW2.0 on a clean new VS3100.
During the installation, I could have sworn I answered a question
about the default window system, and I could have sworn I answered it
"DECwindows". But my MODPARAMS.DAT had WINDOW_SYSTEM=0 in it!
Is this perhaps a bug in the VMS 5.3 installation procedure? Or an
error in the VMS 5.3 installation guide? I specifically remember
reading a step in the installation guide that says the system will
ask you for the default window system. I assumed that the
installation procedure would set the SYSGEN parameter accordingly.
