1842.0. "Version numbers in .DAT files" by QUEBAL::KELTZ (I'm not nervous, just VERY alert!) Mon Dec 04 1989 15:36
OK, maybe this has been covered. If so Mr. MOD please move this.
Have I done a stupid thing, or is this a problem?
I edited the DECW$SM_GENERAL.DAT file to remove some of the applications form
the autostart mode. After that, every time I logged in, DECWindows would start
the Session Manager, then log me off. logging in from a vt200 showed me ACCVIO
messages that I could not decifer.
Well, after about three hours of fooling around with protections and such, I took
a stab in the dark and checked the version numbers on the DECW$SM_GENERAL.DAT and
DECW$SM_BW.DAT files. They were different. Soo, I changed the one that I had
edited to be the same as the *BE.DAT file, and alls well again.
My questions is, Did I do something stupid, which I should have picked up
in reading the various manuals, or is this a problem that hasn't been found yet??
Thanks for the replies,
Ed

| | Your not supposed to edit those files. Sounds like you hosed them.
