I spotted a few things when I was reading the DECwindows User Guide
(version 5.1):
o Most of the info on pages 2-16 to 2-19 inclusive is not true of the LSE and
EVE applications. For example:
- To copy text from an EVE or LSE window to another window, you must NOT
click MB1 after selecting the text.
- QuickCopy doesn't work with EVE or LSE.
I was really confused for a while and couldn't work out why nothing I tried
out at my terminal seemed to work. I decided that these pages describe how
all applications except text editing applications work.
o Typo on page 4-47, first line of "Executing a DCL command" should read
"directly" and not "directory".
Thats all.

| 785.1 | User misunderstanding perhaps? | EVETPU::REINIG | This too shall change | Tue May 16 1989 13:09 | 15 |
Are you talking about DECwindow's EVE or character cell EVE? Quickcopy
works fine with DECwindow's EVE. With character cell EVE, EVE tells
DECterm that it wants mouse escape sequences so that it can position
with the mouse. This has the side effect of disabling DECterm's
quickcopy support. If you want DECterm quickcopy to work when
character cell EVE is running in the DECterm window, use the TPU
statement:
set (MOUSE, OFF);
TPU will tell DECterm that it is no longer interested in mouse escape
sequences and this will turn back on DECterm's quickcopy support.

TPU and EVE V2.2 (released with VMS V5.1) didn't support quickcopy.
Unfortunatly, quickcopy was finalized *after* the DECwindows V1
functionality code froze. We decided that fixing bugs was more
important than adding new features.
TPU and EVE V2.4 (now in internal field test - see EVETPU::TPU_NOTES
for kit location) has added quickcopy support.

| 785.3 | documentation should not be subtle | STAR::DENHAM | Tue Jun 06 1989 16:38 | 30 | |
As the author of the VMS DECwindows User's Guide, may I suggest that
you (.0) perhaps missed two paragraphs in Chapter 2, one in the section
titled Copying Text and the other in the section titled Moving Text,
that indicate the very thing you reported in .0. These paragraphs
follow both the procedures for copying and moving text and
state
EVE uses other methods for copying text. See the VMS DECwindows
Desktop Applications Guide for more information about copying text
in EVE. [the one in the Moving Text section substitutes the word
"moving" for "copying.]
While I tried to indicate that EVE did not implement these techniques
for copying and moving text, I fear that I was a bit too subtle. To
solve this, I've changed the paragraph for the next version of the
manual to read
EVE uses DIFFERENT [emphasis won't appear in book] methods for
copying text. See the VMS DECwindows Desktop Applications Guide....
And as you've seen in .2, QuickCopy has been implemented for the next
version of DECwindows EVE, so no additional documentation corrections
or retractions will be necessary.
Thanks also for reporting the typo. Consider it fixed.
