I have a 3100 at my customer site, but not enough disk space for
any BookReader books...they're all back at the office on the larger
machines. I'd love to be able to read them because they're the only
documentation I have on programming in DECWindows. Is there any way
to "remotely" (1200 baud modem) view the books? I'd expect to lose
capabilities, but all I really want is simple text. Please excuse
my ignorance if the answer is obvious. I've been in the field so
long that this is my first exposure to DECWindows.
Thanks
VC

| 752.1 | DECwindows on-line doc only available via BookReader | BANZAI::COFFLER | Ya' gotta help me, I'm a toon! | Tue May 09 1989 23:18 | 15 |
re: .0
As has been mentioned here about a billion times before, the on-line
documentation is ONLY available via the bookreader. Period. Last that
I heard, there are no plans to change this.
You could always bring a CD reader with you if you'll be at the
customer's for a while. CD readers are easy to install, quite small,
and have all of the VAX/VMS and DECwindows Documentation (as well as
Fortran, DBMS, and other layered products). Other than that, I could
only suggest ordering the SDC doc (in hardcopy) and bringing it with
you ...

Bravo: .1
This is what CDROM technology is all about! Walking into a customer
site with a CD reader in one hand and two compact discs in the other
(one CD containing VMS and nearly 100 layered product binary kits, and
the other CD containing over 30,000 pages of online documentation
including VMS, DECwindows, FORTRAN, Pascal and DBMS) delivers a very
powerful message to your customers: VAXstations, DECwindows, and CDROM
is where the action is at Digital!!
If you need assistance obtaining compact discs for demo purposes,
please contact me by mail and I'll be happy to assist. Better yet,
check out the May 1 edition of Sales Update for the internal order
numbers.
Cheers,
Marian
