    Flavio,

    did you follow the following sequence - "add", "apply", "ok" from
    the Customize Security dialog before saving Current Settings from
    the Session Manager?

| 100.2 | Sorry, no such luck | WINERY::ROSE |  | Thu Feb 02 1989 00:07 | 15 |
| | The first time I did just "add", "ok".

    I tried it again now with "add", "apply", "ok" and I still have
    the same problem.

    The session manager writes the following at the end of my .Xdefaults:

    sm.host_list:   SYRAH::,syrah,localhost,chabli::
    sm.num_hosts:   4

    The system is freshly installed from the SDC tape. The root and /usr
    partitions were completely overwritten... no internal baselevels
    left.

| 100.5 | potential conflict between xhost file and X resource ??? | SICVAX::TIMMINS | XUI & OSF - Perfect Together | Thu Feb 02 1989 17:51 | 19 |

    This does seem to be a problem. I had the same type of problem during
    teh DECtop setup for the NYA ACT on the DS3100.

    However, it sometimes worked and sometimes didn't. I generally use
    xhost due to habit, but I have modified the entries for the session
    manager as noted above and seem to find duplication between the
    entries in xhost and the session manager. Unfortunately, I made it
    work for DECtop, and didn't trace down the problems to where they
    were repeatable.

    Perhaps someone with source should check to see if there is a
    sequencing problem with reading in the X resource file and the
    xhost file after checking to ensure that the server is storing the
    sm... resource info correctly.

| 100.7 | Not in UWS 2.2, Fixed in future 4.0, server problem | OPHION::MIKEY | Mike Yang | Thu Feb 08 1990 17:23 | 11 |
| | What version of UWS are you running? I didn't see this problem
    (duplicated hosts in the security list) with UWS 2.2.

    If you're running UWS 4.0 (that shipped with Ultrix 4.0), there was a
    *server* problem which caused the duplicated hosts. This was just
    fixed the other day.

    xhost and the session manager are merely different ways of doing the
    same thing -- adding/removing hosts from the server's security list.
    If you're seeing duplicates, it's because the server is not noticing
    that hosts are the same and consolidating them.

| 100.8 | UWS 2.2 not shipped in Germany | FRSTSC::CHRISTIAN |  | Fri Feb 09 1990 03:10 | 11 |
|  | 	Hello Mike,
	it's a DECstation 2100 running UWS 2.1. In Germany UWS 2.2 is not
	an official SDC. I hope that's the correct word. We are always a litle
	bit later on. The customer has serveral U**X maschines , the DECstation
	is lent from DIGITAL. He ist testing if there are differences in the
	windowing SW between the different maschines.
	BTW UWS 4.0 i heard of it. Never seen. Germany is far away.
