| | School House Rock, was a series of educational shorts
that used to play on the networks during Saturday cartoons.

I have checked with several of my friends about it.
EVERYONE within my generation loved them.

Most people can quote or sing the songs.

Does anyone know where I can find copies of them?

| | Yeah, school-house rock!
When I was in college, there was a club that showed movies every Friday
and Saturday night. While people were filing in and getting seated, they
would run School House Rock shorts on the TV's. *Everyone* knew the words
and would sing along. (The videos must be available but I'm not sure where
they got them.)"
I didn't watch much TV when I was a kid, but I was allowed to watch public
television, and I know that Electric Company and Sesame Street and Zoom
were as much a part of my world as my real friends were.
"conjuction junction, what's your function..."

| | Is there an archive where I might FIND these treasures that someone
    knows about?

    My faves..
    Movies:

The Secret of NIMH <--- I've seen 12 times
The Little Mermaid <---- Ursula Got a raw deal
Beauty and the Beast <---- Though it was scary
    The Wiz
I hated the Wizard of OZ and H & G renditions because they
    frightened me.

    I didn't get to
       An American Tail
       Watership Down
       The Hobbit

or NIMH until much later... but they are high on my list now.

    Shorts:
    School House Rock
and ?? Granny Rock ??<--- The History Equivalent

    Shows:
    The Electric Company
    Zoom
Ses. Street <-- I got to go on the set once. It was great.
                    The really odd thing though...
When you try and take a picture of Mr.
Snuffalupagus while he is hanging in
the rafters up where they store him...
the pictures don't come out... You can't
see him... Or maybe it is just because
an adult took the picture ;->

    Cindi

P.S. I have also seen Big Bird eat a turkey leg.
It was a tad macabre, but I got over it.
It was a little funny, when his co-workers pointed out
to him at a party that he was eating a bird, he screamed
in his Big Bird Voice "Oh my G-d I'm a Canibal".
Don't tell your kids though, they may have nightmares.

| | Ick. I hated Mr. Rogers when I was a kid. Even when I was 6, I thought
he was just too sicky sweet for words. I watched Mr. Rogers every day
for two reasons, only: it was on between Sesame Street and Electric Company,
and for the Neighborhood of Makebelieve, which I *loved*. (Still do, I
admit it.) But I always thought Mr. Rogers himself was a creep.
What about - Captain Kangaroo? :-)

| | I guess Melissa thought Mr. Rogers was a "weenie" too, because once
when she was small and she and her cousin were raising cane and getting
on my nerves, I told them to sit down and watch TV for awhile. Mr.
Rogers came on and she said, "But, Mummy, I can't *stand* that man!"

She didn't always have good taste, though. As a little kid, she used to
like to watch Donny & Marie! yuck :-)

But, even Mr. Rogers isn't as obnoxious as toasting President
Eisenhower, with a glass of milk, with Big Brother Bob Emery! (I think
that was his name!) (those not born yet in the '50's don't know what
    you missed!) :-)

I also always hated Howdy Doody, and that boring woman with the silly,
    boring puppets.

When I was little I used to watch stuff like The Cisco Kid, Wild Bill
Hickok, Hopalong Cassidy - education stuff like that.

I did watch Captain Kangaroo when I was a kid, and liked him a lot,
along with Mr. Greenjeans, the moose and rabbit. I think Mr. Rogers
appeals to kids that are about 3 or 4 years old, maybe 5 or 6, but
he is pretty dreary to anyone older. He's still on because little kids
love him. I think I would've liked him because he looks right at you
when he talks, he seems so gentle and sincere, he's reassuring and slow.
Most of the men I had contact with as a kid were either perverted or
violent and I guess it's Mr. Roger's softness ("weenie-ness"?) that
appeals to the kid in me.

| | G'Day,

I can't believe that we exported 'Skippy' to the US. It was a
popular show here in Australia (in fact they are making plans for
another series with a few of the original cast members) but I don't
think it was really export material.

I actually went to high school with Gary Pankhurst who played Sonny
in the series. This was a few years after production had finished and
he never wanted to talk about it. A few weeks ago there was an article
in the paper about 'What ever happened to ...' and they mentioned Gary
and apparently he still refuses to even admit to anybody that he was
    ever in it.

Now I live about half hours drive from Waratah Park where the
series was filmed. You can go there any day and see as many 'Skippy's'
    as you like.

David. (What's that Skip? Time to start work - drat!)

I grew up in the suburbs of Philadelphia, PA, so here are a few of the local
shows I remember:
	Sally Star
	Pixie Ann
	Wee Willie Webber
These all hosted cartoons and had other characters, etc. I remember a bunch
of cartoons which starred a cat and a duck(?) which I haven't seen for
years. Can't remember anything else about it except that the cat was "the
smart one" or in charge or something. The duck(?) would stumble through
things or something like that.
Does anybody out there remember the Soupy Sales Show?
I think my favorite was Captain Kangaroo. Back in the days before VCR's, I
was disappointed that going to school was preventing me from seeing my
favorite show.
Then they introduced some clone named Captain Noah who just wasn't Captain
Kangaroo. My brother even had a "Bunnie" puppet which I loved.
I had a Cecil puppet (from Beanie and Cecil - another favorite) which said
something when you pulled a string.
The Flintstones
The Saturday Morning cartoons (gosh, they were better than some of
				the drivel now-a-days. They didn't
even make toys of most of the characters!
				Whoops! Soapbox alert!)
A question:
Does anyone know if the old Hallmark Hall of Fame shows are
available on video anywhere for renting? I recall some
beautifully produced specials ("The Littlest Angel" Note#795.12,

Terrific hats". My favorite on Captain, however, was the occasional
    guest "The Banana Man".

I also loved Disney on Sunday night. Unfortunately, I expected my
own family to be be lovey-dovey and have every feel good and healed at
the end of the night! Still getting over that one! ;-)

actually! My little brother was on that show.

My favorite on Captain Kangaroo was the Kellogg's cereal commercial
when they had the train go around with the bowl, the cereal came down
the chute and the milk came down another chute. Anyone remember that?
(or am I just dreaming?!) Dancing Bear didn't talk did he? He didn't
    have a mouth....

| | I don't remember the Banana Man being part of an ad campaign. I
believe that he was only on on Saturday mornings. He pulled bananas
from all sorts of unlikely places, bunches and bunches of them, and the
only sound he made was a sort of astonished "Ohhhh".

    I also liked Roy Rogers.

One movie I loved as a kid was The Parent Trap.

The Wonderful World of Disney had its ups and downs, one double
episode I remember loving was one where the kids follow clues
along with this old sea captain to find buried treasure...cool.

Another Saturday morning "Scooby Doo" fan.

I used to make real sure I was home from school by 4 PM to catch
Star Trek reruns (I was a little young to appreciate it when it was
on during prime time). My little brother and I watched it together.
Had to watch them on the old clunker in the celler that you had to
use a pliers to turn the channel. Why? My mother let my
even-younger-siblings use the good TV for "Sesame Street" on at the same
    time.

Oh yeah, I liked The Electric Company and Zoom. I was too old for
Mr. Rogers and Sesame Street by the time they came on.

LOVED Captain Kangaroo, Mr. Green Jeans, and Mr. Moose as a real
    little kid.

And the Grinch Who Stole Christmas, of course, every Christmas.
