    Natural fabrics (cotton, wool, silk, linen, etc.).  A comfortable look,
    whether it's traditional (slacks) or non-traditional dress (caftans, 
    leggings, whatever).  I don't think I really like leather anymore,
    except for shoes and sandals.

    I mostly like to see men dressed comfortably (for them).  But then 
    again, I enjoy seeing a man dressed in a well-groomed suit when the
    occasion warrents.  Definitely the grooming part is a big thing for me.
    For example, I can't stand dirty fingernails and dirty looking hair.
    So actually as long as he's clean, he could probably wear nothing at
    all. 8)))))))  In fact, I really prefer it that way!!!!!!!!!!

    at the risk of issuing a sweeping stereotype, I must say that the 
    men in Z�rich dress and smell better than any collective group of 
    men I've ever experienced.  Italian suits, long pleated pants, 
    well pressed linen shirts, Italian leather shoes, athletic bodies,
    unique and bizarre watches, heavenly colognes ...
    
    ahhh, Swiss men.  Liesl, perhaps you should plan a trip overseas.
    I volunteer to act as your guide, and I promise my sights will be

    Maybe this belongs in true confessions, but I once went to a clothing
    optional beach.  I found the guys wearing the skimpy little bikini
    bathing suits a lot sexier than those wearing nothing at all.

    re last few:  I agree that leaving something to the imagination is
                  intriging but I'll always be a nudist at heart.  I
                  hate wearing clothes so I guess I just assume that men
                  hate wearing clothes.  Of course, I realize that I 
                  shouldn't assume anything.  My opinion is that when
                  one is nude, they have nothing to hide - no facade.
                  That's when the true character emerges.

    re .16:  Comparing a novel with it's dust jacket removed is, to me,
             not a fair analogy since the novel is already written and
             cannot defend or offend itself after being written.  However,
             a person will say and do a lot of very interesting things
             with his or her clothes removed that they would not do
             clothed.  Yes, it's all fine and well to cover that extra
             15 or 20 lbs. but it is still not the true self emerging.
             Clothes are simply a security device that one hides behind.
             It really doesn't bother me one way or another having no
             clothing on with regards to my physical attributes.  If I
             cannot be accepted as I am, then that's too bad for the one
             who cannot accept me.  It's their problem - not mine.  I would
             rather get to know a person without clothes on first and take
             the honesty that comes of it and then see that person with
             clothes on later and observe the difference.  Just my
             different way of looking at it.

    not wishing to rathole a perfectly good topic, but the discussion of
    nude inspection earlier in this string reminded me that there is a
    tradition, still occasionally found, dating back to the days of the Old
    Religion - possibly 4 or 5000 years - in the "Celtic Fringe" (western
    Ireland and the outer Hebrides of Scotland) where a couple inspect each
    other nude (with chaperons [traditionally the mothers of the girl and
    the boy and the Wiccan priest] in the next room and the door open
    between them) prior to formally becoming betrothed.

    dressed, I must concur. And perhaps it should be noted that they not
    only go for the soft, elegant touch in cloths, but go for the soft

    Men's formal clothing in Europe (suits, etc) is different looking than
    in the USA.  It is hard to say what the difference *is*, but it doesn't
    take long to be able to spot it.  Somehow the European kind looks more
    elegant.
    
    Myself, I wouldn't mind kilts.  I always liked the look of formal
    Scottish attire, both for men and for women.  But (1) the stuff is just
    about impossible to find around here, and (2) my family tartan consists
    of the colors green, black, and violet, which make for a pretty
    gloomy-looking ensemble.  Not to mention (3) the stares I would get.

    We cut suits differently in the UK.
    There is actually a style of suit here known as "American cut",
    described as "somewhat shapeless but comfortable" (in an entrancing
    book, "A Gentleman's Wardrobe", which is a guide to *the* classic
    men's clothes and how they came about....)
    
    Hope this comment doesn't offend any U.S. snappy dressers - if it's
    any consolation, the same book described R. Nixon as being very well
    dressed (though he did wear European style suits, occasionally ordered
    in Saville Row).
    The American cut, which at least has vents, is still rated better than
    a certain European cut which doesn't have vents - which means that
    it looks great when you're standing up but puckers as soon as you
    sit down or need to put your hands in your pockets.
    
    Men's classic formal dress fascinates me - it's infinitely adaptable,
    and I wear many men's formal items simply because they look so
    timelessly good...

    When I was in Europe last month I browsed through some shops.  In
    general the clothing seems to be made of superior fabric that "drapes"
    or seems to fit better.  The clothing fabric patterns and texture
    seems more contemporary than what I have seen in the U.S.  I got the
    impression that the clothing that I was looking at in Europe would be
    available in the States in another couple of years.  
    I think (again to generalize) European men pay alot more attention to
    detail also, be it patterned socks, textured accessories or matching
    different types of patterned fabric and having a successful look.
    I was in a capital city and the women were "dressed to kill" too, 
    stylish and feminine while also appearing professional.

    	I really like those cotton pants with vivid designs that have
    	*velcro* as the way to secure the waist-part.  They can be
    	found in surf-type stores from what I've seen, but also sometimes
    	in department stores.  They are unlike any other pants I've seen
    	men wear, and I find them quite sexy.

    I already had this image of you as one who buys from International
    Male!  My husband gets the catalog, but I think I enjoy looking at it

When we were down in San Diego for this past Thanksgiving, I stopped in at the
International Male store as I always do. As we're checking out, I asked Janice
to pick out a couple of pairs of underwear for me - as a present to her... :-)

International Male's catalogs are for women, and bi or gay men what Victoria's
Secret catalogs are for men. (I have no idea if bi and lesbian women like
Victoria's Secret catalogs.)

    You can find the "Velcro" pants at the Royal Ridge Mall, I beleive the
    shop is O.P. It's on the same side as Hit or Miss, right next to it I
    beleive.  They have also been spotted at Bradlee's, and at least 4
    stores in the PLM,  Poor Simone's and Burlington Coat (all in Nashua).

Christine - IM will sell your name to a LOT of people. If you want to get
endless catalogs about clothes for both (either?) sexes, most of which AREN'T
up to the kind of avante-garde style standards that IM adheres to, then no
problem. If you DON'T want those catalogs, then tell IM not to give your name
out. In that case I believe you only get IM, Undergear, and one other who's
name I forget.

IM *will* send catalogs even if you don't buy, but I think they may have one of
those "send us $3 for a catalog, get a coupon for $5 off your first purchase"
kind of deals.
