| | From _The_Herb_Book_ by John Lust (ISBN 0-553-23827-2, $4.95):

Proerties and Uses: Astringent, mucilaginous. Use evening primrose
as a soothing remedy for coughs associated with colds. It has also
been used for mental depression, its effectiveness perhaps due to
a stimulating effect on the liver, spleen, and digestive apparatus.
It can also be made into an ointment useful for rashes and other
skin irritations. The entire plant is edible.

| | Oil of Evening Primrose is a good plant source of omega-3 fatty acids.
Studies have shown omega-3's reduce the incidence of cardiovascular
    disease.

At a conference I went to, another study showed that omega-3's were
    helpful in decreasing the symptoms of colitis and Crohn's disease;
though they're not sure of the mechanism. The people in the study
took about 12 capsules of Primrose Oil daily.

If you go to a health food store with knowledgable employees they
can advise you on dosage. Or send me mail and I'll put you in
touch with a nutritionist who's up to date on this issue.

If you have a lousy diet no suppliment can make up for it as far
as making you feel better and supplying nutrients. (Sorry, one of
my nutritionist tapes just kicked in!) However, Oil
of Primrose in addition to a healthful diet can enhance your health.

Where do you buy this? (In general. I don't live in MA so please
don't direct me to one particular store.)

| | A book I have suggested Oil of Evening Primrose to help prevent
recurring cysts in the breasts. I took it for awhile but am not sure
if it was effective or if my body just got out of the cycle it was in.

    	Carla,

Here in Colorado Springs, Mountain Mama is GREAT! (they have
yummy walk off with it from the deli food too). Another option
you have is the Adams Mountain Natural Foods store in Manitou
Springs. If one doesn't have exactly what you want, the other
    	generally does.

| | what confuses me is the dose. On my packet of pills it says
take as many as required! bit vague.

I take one a day. Just to see what if anything changes.

But will it be a change that is real, or just imagined?

| | EPO is also available at Bread & Circus.

It was also recommended to me for PMS.
