    One of my cousins was diagnosed as having ovarian cysts
    several years ago.  I don't know what here symptoms were, as
    we were not all that close.  She was about 20 years old at
    the time.  She eventually did have to have surgery, and they
    had to remove a portion of each ovary, but enough was left
    that she did not have to go on hormone treatments or
    anything.  They told her it was still possible for her to get
    pregnant, but that the chances were less good. 

    Within a few years after that she was pregnant, much to her
    surprise.  She now has three children.

    I know there's not an awful lot of facts here, but I hope it

    I was 19 when I was taken in for ovarian cyst's.  I started
    to have really bad pains one day and drove myself to the 
    hospital.  I was operated on the next day.  The doctor said that
    I would be fine.  14 months later I went back into the hospital
    again to have them removed again, this time I had a piece of my
    ovary removed also.  The doctor gave me a lesser chance of getting
    pregnant but said that there are lots of other ways we can approach.
    
    I am happy to say that i got pregnant on my own .....It took 3
    years before it happened but i now have 3 weeks left before i
    get to hold my little bundle of joy.
    
    I found it helped to have a doctor who really cared about me and
    the problems i was going through.  He did everything possible to
    make it easier for me and when I went to him and told him i was
    pregnant he had a smile from one side of his face to the other and
    then gave me a big hug and said...."I new you  could do it".
    
    Nothing is impossible and I know that you are going to pull 
    thru this just fine.

    When I had my hysterectomy for enodmetriosis back in 1975, I 
    ended up having an ovary removed for being an orange-sized 
    cyst.  I have had no problems in the way of cancer and it
    has been 14 years!  This ovary was the one that was supposed
    to be left behind but surprised the doctor by being cystic
    while the other ovary was "dusted off" (endometrium covered
    it and was slated to be removed).  I have not been on hormone
    therapy and expect to go through a normal hormonal "change of
    life"!

    Hope this allays some of your concerns.

    Just last week my doctor told me I have a cyst on both my ovaries.
    I had one before when I was around 19 and it went away so I hope
    these do to, but my doctor told me they were not big enough to operate
    and I have a follow up in 6 weeks.  
    
    My doctor did not seem to worried about them so I will not worry
    until he does.

    I was told I have a 2 inch ovarian cyst on my left ovary that is activly
    bleeding into the surronding area. the gyn put me on estrogen for 4
    weeks, he says that if it doesn't shrink, I have to have the ovary
    removed.  they did an ultrasound to find it and measure it. thats also
    when they found the area tissue involvement. he said it doesn't "look"
    like cancer. gee, I feel really secure with that one.  so three more
    weeks to go, If the eternal pms symptoms go away, and I don't
    kill something, and the damn thing shrinks, I should be ok.  I had 
    a hysterectomy 7 years ago, so haven't had to deal with any pms 
    symptoms since, now the hormones bring it back.

    Have you considered a quick second opinion, Vivian?  "Doesn't look
    like" wouldn't be reassuring worth a tinker's dam to me either.

    i had the same type of ovarian cyst as in .0.  i complained and
    complained cuz i was getting pains in my side.  it was a small cyst
    and they did several ultrasounds to keep an eye on it (it didn't grow
    for about a year and a half and even then it was small) they put
    me on the pill to try and get rid of it but that didn't work and
    i was very persistent that it "hurt"!  they removed it last year.
    my mother has a history of endermetriosis but they didn't find any
    sign when they opened me.  they did find another pea size cyst starting
    on the left ovary and they removed that while they were "in the
    area".  no complications, no part of my ovary was removed and there
    should be no problem with me getting pregnant if i so desire!  i
    was on short term for 30 days after the surgery.  a little painful
    at first i was slow getting up and down (all i wanted to do was
    be able to cough or sneeze again without holding my stomach! :-).
    they did a biopsy (sp) which is routine but no problems and i don't
    have to go back again unless there is a problem.  so i would suggest
    talking with your doctor finding out how big the cyst is and what
    his/her plan of action is!  my doctor told me that mine was very
    small and wouldn't have been removed at that time except it *was*
    causing me pain...she said some woman have cysts the size of oranges
    and never know it cuz they don't have pain with it so maybe that
    will also determine what they do!
