| | I've always used toothpaste. It works great removing scuff marks.

| | Try nailpolish remover! It works great. I use it on my white shoes
    only.

| | Since driving is the main source of scuff marks on the backs of
shoes, I keep a "driving shoe" in the car. It's easier to feel
the accelerator and it saves the backs of my shoes. (Good icebreaker
too! People wonder why I have one shoe in the car.)

| | I tend to drive with my right shoe off, since that's the heel that I
    always ruined.

For scuff marks, though, try a little (very diluted) SoftScrub on a
    sponge. It does work!

I have always used a little scouring powder and water on a
sponge to remove these marks....works well if you are gentle.

Thanks for all the tips. Tried the nail polish remover last night
on several pairs of white heels and it did the trick - will try
the softscrub on the off-whites tonight (whew, what an exciting
    after work life I lead...).

Have to say that the toothpaste made 'em shine, but didn't take
away the black marks. Probably will never get cavities there, tho.
