look to pay a minimum of 600 for any decent area, one bedroom. You
have to drive much further away from Greater Maynard to pay 500-600
    for 2 bedrooms.

...and I agree that you'll have to pay that much for a *one* bedroom
apt. in the "Greater Maynard" area.

| | For that price, you'd have to look around the Worcester area. Or
west/north of Worcester. And try thinking around $600.00 at least.
In Worcester, you'd be about 25 to 30 minutes to the Marlboro/Hudson
    area.....

| | As a general rule, things in Massachusetts tend to be cheaper the
further west (i.e., the further from Boston) you go. That of course
varies depending on the particular town/city. I think if you're
within half hour of 495, you'll be within half an hour of a Digital
    facility!

| | A decent 2 bedroom (nice neighborhood, good building, security,
parking, washer/dryer, etc) in the Worcester area will run about
$700+. However, Worc. has an abundance of privately owned 3-deckers,
where the amenities may not all be there, but if you're willing
to supply your own appliances (in some cases), you can get a wonderful
two-bedroom with a lot of character.

There are also more reasonable rental prices in the surrounding towns
such as Millbury, Auburn, Oxford, Leicester - these unfortunately, will
increase your commute to the 495-Digital locations - but if the
ride is not important, and lower rentals are, then give it try.

| | I reccomend Worcester for easy access and price. It takes me 45 minutes
    to Maynard in the morning.

| 576.8 | Auburn--near 20,290,Pike,downtown Worcester... | EDUHCI::WARREN |  | Fri May 05 1989 15:28 | 13 |
| | I live in Auburn (very near 290) and it takes me no more than 25
minutes to get to MRO3. Same for my husband who works very near
    the DEC Hudson plant.

It occurs to me that since prices around here jumped so dramatically
a few years ago that there could be some big variations in rents
depending on the size of the owner's mortgage.

Where are you located? Maybe some of us could send you our local
classifieds to give you an idea of what's available at what price.

| | since you said any dec plant, does the westminster plant count??
i live in leominster ma, and you can get a *nice* two bedroom apt
for $500, condo for $600. or try Athol ma, where you can still
buy houses for $70k, and my sister had a 3 bedroom apt (last year)
for $400. the commute from leominster to the 495 belt plants is
approx 45 mins. to westminster is 15 mins.

it all depends on where you want to live & work. personally, i
perfere a 45 min commute (highway, no backroads and no traffic
jams like u get in boston) and living on a lake to living in a city
and having a 20 min commute. my friend lived 10 miles away and
often took 25-35 mins to get to work (traffic). i live 38 miles
away and seldom take more than 45 mins. i guess it all depends on
priorities. just make sure u have a good car.
