Help!! Just found out that for six months of my time with Digital
as a temp. I should have been paid a night shift differential, and
I was not. This all took place from Jan. 1988-July 1988 and I was
working for an outside agency. I have pursued it but am definitely
getting the "run around". I feel someone somewhere is very reluctant
to pay me the back pay I feel I am owed and am beginning to tire
of questions like, "Why did you wait so long?"--answer being that
I did not know that I was entitled to a 10% differential until the
beginning of November. Someone above me has finally agreed that
yes- I am owed that money but once again I am sent to chase it
down. Any suggestions on how I can speed this whole thing up?
With a new baby on the way I could really use the money!!

My first thought would be that if you are through an outside agency
then you are not subject to Digital pay scales. It would be inaccurate
for you to compare your wages with peers that are regular Digital
employees. I think the agency might claim you agreed to this position
at the quoted pay rate, regardless of shift. Had you raised the
shift differencial issue before accepting the postion you may have
been able to bargin a higher rate.
