Does anyone know of an organization called Women In Science and
Engineering? My nephew's girlfriend is attending WPI (same as me),
and asked me if I belonged, or if I know of anyone that belongs.
It seems there is a group of women at WPI who would like to start
a chapter, but don't know who to contact. My first thought was
that if they know of its existence, they must have gotten it from
someone and should ask that person, but I guess they haven't been
    having much luck.

Anyhow, if any of you know of this organization, I would appreciate
getting a contact so that I can help out with the request.

    Thanks,
    Cathy

| Yes, I know of them, I used to be a member when I was in college but have since lost contact. I am also a member of SWE (Society of Women Engineers) and I seem to remember seeing an ad in the SWE magazine for WISE. When I get home, I'll look and see if I still have a copy of the magazine and see if I can find you an address or something. WISE is a very good organization...They have lots of seminars and classes to promote women in the sciences and engineering. I was very impressed with their organization...I'll see what I can find out for you! kathy | |||||

| There was a WISE chapter as well as a SWE chapter at the university
I graduated from (The Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago).
I'm sure you could call the university and get information about
    the program.

| For General Info ...
If you're hot to find a particular association,
either by name or by area of interest, pop into
the reference section of any sizeable library and
consult:
  The Index of Associations
It's an annual I found at the Fitchburg Massachusetts
public library. It gives contact info, membership fees,
and a few sentences about the purpose of the association.
It lists *thousands* of associations ... biggies like the
American Association for the Advancement of Science and
the National Organization of Women. It also lists associations
for interest groups such as:
   ex-vaudeville performers and producers
   opera fans
   opera professionals
   cigar smokers
   women billiard players of America
   professional baseball managers
   the Ralph Cramden Society
   professional cartoonists
   industrial designers
PS The last issue I consulted gave an out-of-date
address for the Association of Women in Comedy,
organized by Robin Tyler. If any noter has info
on Tyler's current doings or the organization,
I'd appreciate hearing about it. Meigs
